04-06 GTO Dash Install 1970-72 gm a body

      Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.
Im geared up to install a 04-06 GTO Dash in a 1971 El Camino
I wanted to know could this be done or has anyone attempted to try this swap?
From my understanding all the gm a body cars from 1970-72 are pretty much the same
Chevelle, Lemans, GTO, El Camino, Skylark, Cutlass.
If I get enough go aheads I will do a detailed post with plenty of pics incase of someone else who wants to swap this dash in a 70s a body.

Id LOVE to see this. I love customized work.
Have you bought anything or measured it yet?

Keep me posted on your progression if I don't see this again

The firebird looks awesome! I had considered this in my 69 GTO but I never got far into it other than an idea. Im not sure how it would work, if I remember right the firebird is several inches shorter than the 68-72 A body. I hope you can do it, I will be following soon behind. I already have the seats why not the console and dash to right?

One thing I've noticed .......good and bad.....

04-06 GTO seats sit MUCH taller and the seats themselves are MUCH thicker.
As you can probably see that Firebird is totally badass looking but it has essentially become
a Sports car because the rear seat isn't even accessible with leg room anymore.

Same problem I saw in A-body's using the 04-06 GTO seats.
The rear section especially is what kills the leg room. Check it out.

Most comfortable seats I've EVER sat in besides a 2000 Grand Cherokee's......but they totally kill leg room.
BTW......Good lord that dash and interior is ridiculously badass in that car.

Here's one with the drivers seat clearly much closer to the steering wheel. I'm guessing shorter owner.

Here's another. This is what most look like I've seen......zero leg room.

Your right in my opinion. That's why I didn't use GTO seats. They were too tall and too wide. I used BMW seats. Still these F-body cars didn't have much leg room with factory seats.

I think I have a bead on some other nicely bolstered OEM seats from another newer performance vehicle
for my 68-72 A-body vehicle. I'm going to post up once I confirm that they work and I'm happy with them.

Rear leg room is one of my considerations.

Agreed, I'm a dad with a 4 year old so I consider these things more I guess.
Going from little leg room to zero pretty much eliminates a fathers option to put kids in the car on cruise nights.
Obviously that doesn't apply to everyone, but for those of us with kids, we have to consider that.

Here's 4th gen seats in my 2nd gen Camaro. As you can see, PLENTY Of legroom in back.
I'm 5'10" and my seat is pretty far back.

BTW which BMW seats did you go with?? I'm always interested in seeing what other people used.
