I'm currently in the planning stages of converting my all orginal 1970 Pontiac Lemans into a semi-proturing car. I want to know what is the best brake system for the money. Right now I have the orginal power brake setup with disk up front and disk out back. The only real changes have made is I changed the rotors, put on rebuilt calipers, and ebc pads. I want more modern brakes. What is the cheapes way into good brakes? I know this might sound stupid (cheap and good) but I'm a student and I'm on a limited budget so work with me.
Thanks
P.S. has anyone worked with the c5 brake set up form cpp?

get the c5 conversion from kore3 industries.
Or if you can outsource the rotors and calipers, just get the brackets, hardware, and flexlines.

You can find a better price if you buy used. I waited and only have about 325the into my front setup. Just need to install it. C5 is by far best bang for the buck.

That would be great. Quick question, on the front the disk and the hub is one unit which mounts on the spindle, so if I move up to c5 brakes I will need a hub right? Where do I get the hub?

You use your stock hub you may need to turn it down a bit I did a write up that covers the install

Everything you need for a conversion for $300:

That's as bang for the buck as you'll get.

ok I don't remember how much I spent. but it was not a lot for the front setup.
1st I started off with a set of C4 HD 12.75 rotors from local parts store.

then a set of '98 Camaro LS1 powered SS front calipers from E bay, (rebuilt inspected, returned one not safe to use)

took the stock rotor / disk and had a machine shop (witch I will not use again) cut the rotors off the hub.
have your shop face the hubs about 1/8 - 1/4"

cut the caliper mounts off the stock spinals.

set every thing to together to make a templet out of poster pepper, then out of sheet Madel.

I made mine to mount to 3 of the bolt holes, (kits available only use 2) re-drilled and taped the holes they were some crazy off metric. the mounting bracket 1/4" mild steel. used the rotor to center the caliper bracket (right / left, & depth)

as of jan22 2012
rotors- auto zone J55 C4 vett. $69.99.
Calipers – Ebay with brackets, $100.
Machine shop – I think mine bill was $200. I think I played to much, & they did the minimal amount of work to complete the job.
I had the steel.
