What backspacing do I need for 18x12s for a '69 Camaro?

      Hi everyone,

I'm about to order my Bonspeed Intense 5 wheels, but I have no idea what kind of backspacing to order.

I am new to the custom car world; anything that isn't OE replacement is basically new (other than the usual gerry-rigging).

      I am going to be using Wilwood's 4-piston calipers in the rear and now it is time to make some decisions;

      1. 2" or 3" DS&E Leaf drop (I've read a couple topics that suggest the 3" is the way to go)

      2. What kind of backspacing I need.

      3. Also, does anyone have experience with BF Goodrich's g/Force KDWs?&nbIamb I'm thinking about using them. They're relatively cheap and perform well, and look killer.

DS&E recommended 5.5". But I don't really know what these numbers mean . What does everyone recommend out there? I don't want wheels that won't work.

Thanks for your help, and sorry for my ignorance.

      Thanks,
      Max

Ahhh I would wait and do some home work before you order anything.
      #1 go with the 3"
#2 stock width rear, DSE mini tub and rolled lip. back spacing required is 8" . You are going to have to measure. Please!
#3 they are ok, look at Kumos or Yoko's. See what sizes are availible. What size are you planning?
"DSE recommends 5.5" is the back spacing of a rim. This is with a narrowed rear end housing.
Never appologize for being ignorant, it makes you seem stupid.
Read the stickies above for more tire/rim selection info. Take it easy.

      Thanks, Vince.

We are going to shorten the rear. Most likely we are going to order a brand new Moser unit so we will be ordering axels that are smaller, so how will this affect our backspacing needs? If I understand it correctly, 5.5" is for a narrowed rear, and 8" is for a standard rear.

We are going to be using a 335/30/18 and a 255/35/18 combo... and there aren't a whole lot of 335s available that are sub-$250. I'd love some PS2s, but... $413 a tire isint going to cut it .

      Thanks everyone.
