      Narrowed rearend/tires and wheels

      Hi,
So Im at the point Im getting tires/wheels and a new rear end. My 68 is not mini tubbed and Ive decided to go with a Moser 9", but was wondering:

      1) Is there any performance benefit with a narrowed rearend?
      2) Is there any wheel made (meaning not a custom order) that will have the correct offset to make up for the 2" cut off each side?

Thanks in advance! I bought this car about a month ago thinking I wasnt going to change on it....yeah...its like crack, a month later theres nothing on it I want to keep the same!

I don't understand why you are wanting a narrowed rear.... Stock wheel wells don't call for it and you can buy off the shelf rims that will fit your car perfectly well with a stock width rear... A stock width rear end will work fine and not cause any clearance issues with a stock style wheel. Why booger it up with a non-stock width that won't work with the stock rims? Just asking...
Oh, there is no advantage, performance wise, with a narrowed rear and stock wheel wells....

I guess that was my question...I just stated it wrong. Im buying a new rearend and was asking if there were any benefits. The only reason I was considering it was for a deeper dish look. I may be looking in the wrong places, but the only stock wheels I have found are the TT look-a-likes. Thanks for your hreatelp and have a great Christmas!

I think if you had purchased the rims first you could then narrow the rear to fit. get a standard back space ie: 6" with the dish your after. sometimes getting a custom back space could cost more than a narrow with new axles.

I have a 65 chevelle with stock replacement tubs and a non-notched frame. I went with a slightly narrowed Moser 9" at the recommendation of Jon from DriverzInc. I had Moser narrow the rear end one inch per side for a total of 2 inches which allowed backspacing to support a wider visible lip on the rear wheels. I was able to easily get a 10 inch wide tire back there (mounted on 19 x 9 inch wheel). If you know 65s, that's pretty wide for one of these cars with stock frame and tubs. By the way, Moser doesn't charge extra for narrowing.
