Ron Francis orAmerican Autowire?for 69 camaro

What is the difference between the two companies products good or bad from those who have installed either one? I am building 69 camaro and also need suggestions on engine management, I have used painless wiring in old street rod and it was fairly simple years ago . customer service from either one better then the other I know the basics of wiring
      Thanks Travis

I say american autowire, I used it on my 68 camaro, I'm no electrical Guru but I rewired my car front to rear in a week (couple hours a night after work) great diagrams, came with all the switches and the underdash wiring is about 80% done for you

I have to say AAW also. I purchased a kit from them for the '49 Ford F1 I was building and was very impressed by the quality AND the fact that the kit came with EVERYTHING... Do a comparo between the two. AAW includes ALL of the switches and connectors and Painless does not, they are all extra cost. If you check around you can probably find them on sale.

As a representative of the Ron Francis company I can say that there is significant different between a factory reproduction from AAW and a custom harness for a modified Camaro from Ron Francis. If you plan little or no changes to the electrical system then AAW is quite simple. If you plan upgrades to add accessories or more modern features, Ron Francis has been the leader in that market since his first harness was made many years before AAW was founded. Ron Francis uses heavier wire sizes as needed, upgrades to the components you request and has many really cool features that other still haven't dreamed about. I suggest you get a free Ron Francis catalog at www.ronfrancis.com and review the different fuse panels and accessories he has developed. The fuse panels have serial numbers on them so we can support all of our products as long as you own your car. We consider Customer Service as important as a great product and you can chat with Ron by emailing him at [email protected] for a quick response. Give him a try, you'll be impressed.

This site as well as Lateral-G have threads asking about which wire harnesses and the overwhelming
majority of people choose AAW over the competition. Look for yourself and you'll see.

I did my research and came out an AAW customer that never did a harness before (well in 1997
I tried to do a Painless as a newb and failed) I'm sooooo happy I did buy theirs on my 2nd
attempt. Schematics are idiot newb friendly and easy to read.

Painless wiring is not painless, instructions suck.
EZ-wire uses TXL wire and is made in China. (that's why it's half the cost)
Kwik is a budget option Made in the USA
American Autowire uses GXL wire and it's also Made in the USA. (awesome schematics)

There is also a significant difference between AAW Classic Update kit's and their Highway series.

If you plan upgrades to add accessories or more modern features,
Then you can buy the American Autowire Highway 22 kit for custom applications.
This is what I installed in my baldwin motion themed pro-touring LS powered '78 Z28 in 2010.
Electric fans, fuel pump, power windows, and IIRC I still have 2 leftover open circuits.

I'm putting another AAW Highway 22 kit in my custom 1970 442 with an LY6 / T-56 in it.
You can mount the fuse panel anywhere you want in the car.

I have used AAW and painless. AAW was miles ahead of the painless kit. I was very happy with the quality of the AAW kit and the service I received when I had questions.

I have looked at the Ron Francis wiring page some since I did the AAW kit on my chevelle. I like the look of the Ron Francis Stuff as well. I wish I had used the ron francis accessory fuse panel when I modified my LS engine harness.

I am sure either of these two options will work well for you. But if you go with the AAW kit make sure you get the new style setup and not their stock replacement one of course since you are planning the other addonss

You have a significant advantage over me. I didnt plan on the LS swap until a month after I finished the AAW. Knowing your plan ahead of time I would see which of these two companies can best work with you to put the needed fuses on the main fuse block.

For those doing LS swaps that want a fuse/relay panel in the engine bay.
Check out these Bussman fuse/relay panels for $25 on Waytek Wire.

Very nice units. Here's a thread showing what it looks like after it's done.

has anybody used the trunk mount, long wire kit from AAW?
so do you then end up with a double set of wiring?

I am also leaning towards the AAW "classic update kit". I do have one question I am hoping someone here can help me with.
Does the AAW kit have the "stock plug in style connector" that goes from inside the firewall to the engine compartment??
I have bought a new stock headlight and engine harness and do not understand if I can simply plug these stock harnesses in to the New AAW fuse block connector. The description says this: "13.Original bulkhead connector for the engine and front light wiring is included and ready for installation. Original routing of the new harness without any body modifications!"
Can anyone help me decifer or show a pic of theirs.
      Thanks
      Eric
