Where to purchase black lug nuts?

      Hey guys,

I just bought some new wheels, they're a "shadow chrome" finish, so I need some black lug nuts to match the wheels. I really don't have time to get my stock lugs powdercoated, is there anywhere I can buy some? Also does anyone know where they sell the coated sockets so as to not scartch off the powedercoating?

      Thanks!

I can help you out on the sockets... These are nice, a little pricey, but very nice.

I tried a bunch of local auto parts stores and ended up getting my lugs powdercoated. Let me know if you're able to get anything from ProTec - I called them a year ago to order those sockets, and they said they were out of them. They were supposed to let me know when they got more in but I never heard from them. I ended up getting some cheap(er) plastic coated sockets. I can't find the link right now, but can send it when I get home if you want it.

If you are into coating some lug nuts. There is a product that the automotive industry uses called black sermagard that is used on suspension hardware and components. The salt corrosion and adhesion is excellent. I used this coating when I worked in the golf car industry, because it was incredibly tough to mar or chip. It's worth a look into anyway.

Thanks for the help, guys. I'll try mcGuard first as I think rice boys sells them, and I can get 'em quicker that way if they're local. If not I'll order 'em through their website. Black chrome is exactly what I was looking for.

The protec sockets was what I was thinking of, but damn--$60 bucks is a bit pricey. Tom, if you can send that link later I'd appreciate it.

      Thanks again!

      impact socket set

This may not be what you wanted, it wasn't exactly what I wanted either. It has plastic on the outside to not damage the wheel, and a plastic insert to not damage the lug if it's long enough, but the part that turns the lug is still metal. You can get them several different places, this was the cheapest I found - $25

      Right.

      Like these:

I'm using McGard's Black Chrome spline drive lug nuts. They cost me big time since I had to buy two sets: 16 of 'em in metric, and 20 of 'em in 1/2-20.

That's what you get with C4 front bearings and 9" Ford in the back.

You can't buy 'em online (maybe Jeg's?). I had to find a local retailer.

Sweet, I love those Kinesis wheels...
That's cool to know that they actually make black chrome - I had mine powdercoated because I didn't know they were available!

JP, Who was the local retailer? A local speed shop, or a chain? I went to rice boys today knowing that they sold Mcguard lugs, but of course they did not have the black chrome. I need to get a set of these ASAP. Is there any reason to go with a spline drive over a regular style or boxed lug? I think I need 7/16-20, I like the look of the spline drive.

      Ralph,

Oddly enough, the retailer is called "Wholesale Tire". It's just a local tire dealer. I called about 10 places around here to find somebody with the lug nuts in stock. When I got there to pick them up I saw an old Hot Rod feature on the owner's car framed and hanging on the wall. I figured I had found a kindred spirit, so I had them mount my tires too. He let me watch the guys do it, and even help.

The only advantage to spline drive is that it takes less room in the lug nut hole. It keeps scratches and nicks down when there's a tight fit.

      Hey guys,

I ordered the lugs today. I wound up going with Gorilla Black Chrome lugs as 20 Gorilla lugs cost 1/4 the cost of the McGard. $25 vs. $90. I purchased these lugs: GOR-21133BC (Summit Part #, Jegs didn't sell them). Can someone please confirm I bought the right thing? I've got ROH wheels, and they did not recommend any type of lug, so I went with those which are Gorilla Small Diameter tuner lugs. The small diameter is gorillas way of saying spline drive. They say they fit all "tuner" wheels, did I go with the right stuff?

      Thanks for any help!
P.S. I'll eventually step up to some McGards, but for now, the money can be used elsewhere.
