      wheel spacers 69 camaro

I know there has been talk on spacers, but is it bad to run 1" spacers on the rear and 1/4" spacers on the front if I replace the studs, since I want to buy these used wheels. I have a 69 camaro stock suspension. Rear wheel is 18 x9.5 but the back space to outside of the wheel is 6" and I only have 6" of clearance from the mounting surface to the inside well. Front the back space is 5 1/4" to the outside of the wheel and I have been told 4 7/8" or 5" is optimal???? Sorry I seached for answers and could not come a conclusion about max spacers safe to run. My camaro will not be a race car but driven hard. thanks Todd

You can get away with 5 1/2" backspace on a '69 Camaro front and back with a 9.5" wide wheel.

I have a 9" rear end with wilwood disks, theres only 6" between the mounting surface and the inner fender well, so it would be safe to run a 1" spacer? The wheel is 6" from the outer lip on the inside the mounting surface of the wheel (5 1/2 back space plus the 1/2 inch for the wheel lip). Thanks todd

I'm not clear on what you are trying to say but if you do use a 1" spacer that will be fine for the rear but be sure it is a hubcentric spacer. You dont want the wheel to rely on the lug nuts alone to carry the wheel load hence the hubcentric spacer. Up front I would not go over 1/2" for a spacer if you intend to auto-x or run on a road course.

I assume you're going to use BMW wheels? Like Gaetano said: be sure it's a hubcentric spacer. Don't cheap out and just use the "big washer" style with long studs but pay a bit more and use this style:

Order them for BMW and use a hubcentric ring in between the hub and the spacer.

Thanks, it is a set of TSW's with +20 offset which works fine for the front, but is causing the spacer issue for the rear since my 9" rear end is narrower the the stock chevy rear ends. I'll run the hub centric in the rear and maybe none in the front, thanks Todd
