I need to decide on a system for my 57 Cadillac and I'm having a hard time confirming if a VA Gen IV is going to be sufficient for this size car.

For those that have it do you find it is marginal/satisfactory/excellent?

I want the A/C to kick ass, not just be -ok-.

Thanks!

We have sold a ton of these for big battle wagons. The Gen IV is the only way to go. Not only is it true OEM qualty, but it has the strongest blower in the industry. Wind speed = Wind Chill.

Look no further, there is no other choice.

Yep, they are awesome. Just remember that condenser size is more important than evaporator size so run the biggest one you can and the biggest ac unit in the world won't cool a car with no insulation or weatherstripping. I routinely get 34 to 36 degrees out of the vents with these units.

There are two things that make for a comfortable A/C system- airflow volume and directional control.

Most OEM systems run 275-300 scfm in recirc (they aren't loosing airflow by sucking air through a plenum pressure drop and blowing it out through body exhausters (the 57 will most probably not have body exhausters.) I don't know what the Gen IV is capable of flowing, but whatever the system, make sure there is nothing in close proximity blocking the blower air inlet. Restrictions can significantly reduce volume flow rate.

Secondly, be thoughtful in placement of your outlet's.There's a reason that outlets are placed high on the Instrument Panel. You want the outlet to be able blow on your face and upper torso. Don't know where A/C outlets are located on your car,but get them off the lower dash where the only thing they'll cool is your kneecaps (unless you're wearing loose cutoffs-but I won't go there.)

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like the Gen IV will probably be the way to go. I have a mock-up box here and will check fitment tomorrow.

Frank, if it looks like it will fit I will contact you about putting a system together for me.

After some more thought I've decided to do a Gen IV magnum up front and also a #63200 trunk mount so I have both front and rear heat and a/c. That should get the job done. :)
