I would like to know what some opinions are on not having a center console. I have a 79 camaro and a new console with everything new is about 600 buck!! I like the look of not having a console but really want to have the space for storage ( gps ect.)
Just not sure if I should spend that kind of money for it or cut the mounts off the floor??

You could always go with a bungee cord and a milk crate. :)
Seriously, why not look around at some threads where people have built their own custom consoles? Maybe you could save a few $$$ and have what you want.

Brandon,
you may or may not get a lot of replies on this. So Ill give you mine, only because of had to decide this a few times. Going either way has its pros for sure. Ive found it depends on the usage of the vehicle, is it a daily driver, or weekend show/race bucket?
But I lean to not having a center console, IF its a standard . If its automatic Id go with a console. If its a numbers matching concourse type, then what ever it came with from factory.
Those B&M shifter pods give me a stomach ache....lol. If your worried about storage, bring a back pack, stick It between the seats...problem solved.
Ive seen plenty of cars (standard) with out a console, and they look good and aggressive. Hope this helps.

I agree with SRDzuess4u, it depends on what you are going to do with the car.
Daily driver, you will want a center console. Just to keep your stuff in and rest your arm on.
Mostly for the weekend and going to shows you could go either way.
Camaro's look good both ways.

If you can do a little fabricating pick up a 4th gen manual console off Ebay or Craigslist and make it fit. A little searching on your part and you will probaly find a usable 2nd gen console for a lot cheaper then 600.
Wait! I just found one... :)

Brandon,
again Id go without. Do a search on shifter trim, or call Anvil..see if they have anything. Look at it this way, if you end up wanting a console down the road, your interior will still look good in the meantime. Plus it buys you time to build or get just what you like. Check out these, they seem to be a lot of money...but...there is a ton of time in these things...... http://www.modernclassicsinteriors.com/Machete.html
check out all their models and see what you think, keep in mind, its what you like not what everyone else is doing.

Race cars don't have consoles. Put a nice boot around the shifter and go.

If you decide to put the console in, pick up a used one on eBay...should be able to get one for around $100 and then need another $100 or so in replacement parts (like the lid).
buy the cheapy eBay console make your own lids and boots to go with it and have something cool and original

My vote is to go custom and design your own for that kind of $$$.
Yes, it's a 1st gen, but this is to just take notes on how he built it.
Check this guys thread out. > http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=31999&page=2

Besides the OER 2nd gen consoles have plastic mounting brackets that break too easily.
You'll need to remove those and rivet in the metal mounting brackets anyways to make it secure.
Biggest complaint........recent thread on Nastyz about it too.
For custom, I'm looking for my 442 right now as well. So I bookmarked that thread and I'm
going to attempt to make my own. I'll pay to have it covered after I'm done.
