Not sure where to post this question but i didnt want to post it under the members post who lost his camaro to a fire caused by a battery charger but would like to know how safe the battery tenders are to leave on i always have four on at once 24 hours a day, any feedback would be great i would hate to lose my collection and 3 others that are projects. Thanks

The collector I used to work for has about a dozen of them going at any one time. He's used them for years with zero problems. They put out about as much current as a cell phone charger! (OK maybe a little more than that...)

I like the Battery Tenders, they are cheap, available at parts stores, and come with a variety of connections for cars, bikes, lawn tractors, etc.

I have a battery tender hooked up to a battery at work 7 days a week for the past 5+ years. The battery is used for a alternator tester. Never have had a problem.

Thank you for the replies after reading about the camaro and losing everything it sure worries you a little bit i cant even begin to know how he must feel, good thing is they were safe!

Both of my cars and motorcycle are on Battery Tenders 24/7. So far so good, no issues. I bought them on eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Battery-Tender-Jr-/260660724689?hash=item3cb09703d1&item=260660724689&vxp=mtr). You can find them cheap but they usually have a shipping charge or you can pay a couple bucks more and get free shipping. Either way they're about the same price.

My experience is a bit different.

After using a simple 500mA transformer to keep my RedTop topped off, I pony'ed up and purchased a CTEK 7002, basically the best battery maintainer available. I even read the instructions. It's a good thing I checked the battery since the temperature went up to 120*f with the charger operating in its' automatic mode. That's far too warm for any type of charging.

The charger works well on a lead-acid and another YellowTop battery I have. The OPTIMA guys at SEMA did not know why the battery heats up. The battery was installed in Dec. '03, and OPTIMA suggested replacement. I went back to the old 500ma transformer from an old cordless phone.
