      Heat Cycle

How important is it to heat cycle a set of drag radials? Does it make them stick better and last longer?

Never really heard of it till this article:

I think sticking better and lasting longer isnt going to happen. May help them last longer though.

In theory it sounds great, but I also wonder how applicable it is.

Its not as important on drag radials, but still good to do. On autocross and track cars, shaving the tread and heat cycling the tires is standard fare for several reasons. I recommend the book:

You'll learn a lot from it.

Heating up the tires for racing is to make them sticker so they’ll hold the road. Drag racers do burn outs to get the tires up to temp and when they do they leave half the tire on the track so they’ll have a sticky track and sticky tires

That part I am familiar with. But this is a recommendation for break in before you ever run the tires on the car. Just wondering if the extra money spent is worth it or not for a car with limited time on the track. If it does improve the wear then it may be worth it.

Thank you for the recommendation. Wonder if the library would have a book like that?
