Ive had this car since October 2004. I was 15 at the time. Bought it off of Ebay :hammer:
The car came out of Pennsylvania so its Definately a Rust bucket...

I am currently in college so everything happens at a very slow pace, the car shares DD duty with my truck :bananna2:

rundown of specs when i first got the car:
-tired 302 4bbl motor
-c4 auto
-manual drum brakes
-no a/c
-2.79 gears with open carrier(8" rearend)
-worn out suspension...

Whats been done so far:
-T5 manual trans swap
-Power breaks w/ front disks
-Vintage air a/c installed(Texas summers are HOT!!)
-CD player for the tunes(to drown out the squeaks lol)
-shock towers replaced
-new suspension(5 leaf reverse eye rear springs, front coils still need to be cut. Sits like a gasser:pat:)
-subframe connectors welded in
-3.80 gears and an Aburn posi in the 8" rearend

Short term goals:
-replace the leaky factory power stearing with a manual rack and pinion setup
-racing style seats
-replace my 14/15 wheel setup for late model 17" wheels off of craigslist with spacers
-cut front coils to get stance right
-Bilstein race valved shocks from Maier Racing since the car will sit so low
-larger front sway bar
-motor rebuild at some point, maybe a nice little stroker

Long Term Goals...Very Long term:
-fix/replace rusted areas... theres ALOT!(might even need to find a donor shell..)
-paint(cheap, as it will always be a driver)
-Modern ford motor with forced induction
-upgraded manual trans
-9" rearend
-mini-tubs
-some sort of aftermarket suspension
-big brakes
-caged
-Nice wheel/tire combo

dont have a picture with the new suspenion yet that showers how high the front end really sits!!

Those lip spoiler in the front, surely makes a huge difference! Looking good! DO it right once! even if it s slow.

yea it has a lip spoiler again. I think it makes a big difference with the front end too

I picked up some bullitts for a good deal this morning before work. Factory Anthracite 17x8's up front on some 235/50rz17 meats and some 17x10.5 repro's with nitto 315/35 drag radials out back. The color of the repro's arent spot on, theyre lighter, more of an actual silver color. But im not worried about it. all tires have good tread and it they look that bad, Ill paint the centers black on all of them. cant wait to try and stuff them. Need to pick up new lugs, and dig out the BFH in the garage haha

I love '69 and '70 Mustangs.
This one has a nice Mach1/Boss look with the front spoiler and hoodscoop.
I'l; be watching this project for sure :)

test fit one front with the 1" spacers and I think theyll work great even after I get the front end down some. Also test fit the drivers side rear using the other 1" spacer I have and it pokes out just past the fender. Have some ARP studs ordered so i can swap those out and run about 7/16". Probably going to have to run about a 5/8" spacer on the passenger side as my rear is offset a little. here are some cellphone pics of the mock-up.

Thats one bad college DD. I wish i had my car in college, i would have been sssssssssssooooooooo awesome!!! Instead I just rode around on my bike!!!. The spoiler looks great too. Good luck with the upgrades... question though, why are u doing a cage. Do you plan on racing??

I want to be able to take it to the occasional track day, but I will most likely run a 4-pt roll bar. none of that will be happening for quite some time though. Also, not currently DD'ing the car. after how brutal last summer was in the Texas heat even with the A/C in the car, I picked up a truck as a DD. so now I can really take my time on parts and theres no issue.

Got a lot done last night and today. got the studs swapped out. Pulled out the stock length front springs and put my cut springs back in. I had put on the 1" rear lowering blocks last week. I also changed the oil and went and got it inspected today. NOWW Im just trying to deal with a squealing belt issue that I am going to try and remidy with a new alternator belt in the morning. used two 5/16" spacers on drivers side(5/8" total) and three of them on the passengers side(15/16" total) until i order single spacers for each side. On to the pics!(all cell pics tho..)

Finally bought seats and fabbed up some simple mounts and got them in today. Its nice not having it sit on duct taped seats for the first time in years!!

Great car. There's something about a beater that a finished car just cannot compete with. A magazine should take a gamble and do one month with just in-progress cars just like yours. Real life driven cars.

Its frustrating at times because they all have their own little quirks, but definitely worth it! Plus the girls love it too haha

Well the motor took a ****. cant get good compression so its going to need a complete tear down & rebuild.... Im on a budget still, but any suggestions for affordable performance things I could do?

Specs from supposed rebuild in 2001:
-302 block bored .030 over
-new PAW flat top pistons(new rings & bearings) for about 10.5 to 1 Compression
-Ported exhausted openings on heads
-new water pump
-new timing chain
-new high volume oil pump
-roller tipped rockers
-performer rpm intake
-Edelbrock 1406 600cfm carb
-Crane Fireball II 290H cam(216* @ .050 and .484 lift, intake and exhaust)

I have Zero mechanical skills so Im going to have to have a shop do it.... The motor hasn't been torn down yet either so no telling if osemthing else in there is messed up

On a budget you say? Well a long time ago my buddies dad built him a 302 for his 79' fox body. Stock crank, stock rods with arp bolts and he polished the beams, flattop TRW pistons and moly rings. World products windsor heads that he did nothing more than clean up the ports and chambers and narrow the guide area inside the bowls. I believe it had an erson hydraulic FT cam around the 236/[email protected] range on a 108 ls, harland sharp roller rockers, victor jr intake, 750 DP holley and some cheap headers. That thing ran like a scalded dog for years and years of abuse backed by a tremec 5 speed and a deep geared 9". He hit an 11.99 in it one night but I think he gone to a bigger cam at some point and the air was just right. Anyhow he pulled it and sold it to a buddy when he built a 331 for the same car. That 302 is still in a Torino today making runs and its never even been freshened. Im talking hundreds of low 12 second runs at the track and beat mercilessly on the street for 10 years before he sold it to the Torino guy who is still running it. My point in telling you this, is that with little to nothing you can make a 302 ford run really hard and be reliable for a very long time. Theres nothing fancy needed. It will take some gearing though and to make that friendly on the interstate I would suggest a 5 speed swap if thats in the cards.

Well motor rebuild has been put on the back burner.... Im toying with the idea of an ls1/t56. I think I can get it to fit in teh stock engine bay with a gto pan. Tunnel will have to be modified for t56 though... Still just an idea at this point. I know Zachalanche's project Half-Breed is running an LS motor... Mine would a cheap ugly hacked up cousin to his amazing car(seriously, his work is top notch on that car!). Any thoughts on if its doable with the stock style suspension/steering still in place?

But the cleanliness of this build deserves a nice ford motor.

03-04 cobra motor/t56 would be AWESOME, but that thing wouldn't fit between the shock towers I don't think....

with the first gens mod motors fit with relative ease if you do the boss 429 shock tower cutouts

Well my impatience is starting to get to me.... On the hunt for a budget craigslist 351 I can drop in/possibly just add a cam to. I want to get this thing on the road, I miss driving it. Buy a 351 & swap over what parts I need off of my 302, then sell that(needing a rebuild)... Should be able to do it on the cheap! Hopefully haha
