Well I bought a 70 about 2 months ago for $1,000. Original A/C car with power front disc, buckets, auto console and the owner swapped a 12 bolt in unknowingly (to fix his broke 10 bolt). Car was too rough for me....needed both quarters, inner qtrs, trunk filler panel, rear tail panel, all new front. I bought a title with parts!

I was in it $1,150 and sold car for $800 (-$350) but....
$300 for 12 bolt to 10 bolt swap with uncle
$300 for buckets
Still have console for sale...

Ok...didn't lose $$

So this weekend I bought a 72 (have to swap clip!) but I was able to drive it home for $3900. (came with an original SS hood too)

Short term plan:
Swap clip to 'make it a 70' and get body straight in primer with 70 bumpers (gloss black including headlight trim rings)
Have a 5.3 with good crank so I am going to get a stock set of rod/pistons, cam, good used LS6 heads, and a carb setup

Long term:
Drivetrain/suspension-

Positive atmospheric pressure via Whipple 4.0L (considering other options including TT)
T56
Art Morrison GT-Sport chassis
Kore3 C6 Z06 front brake kit for C6 hub

I like the '72 front end. The '70 is nice too, but I guess I always liked the red headed step child. Very close to everything else, just not loved as much. ( like a Lemans vs a GTO) Good Luck.

Much better the second time around. Im going to have to say that I too like the look of the later year chevelle. My brother has a 70, but so does everyone else. Just food for thought. Either way much better pick up this time around. Looking forward too see where this goes.

Well I saw a CL ad for misc LS parts and offered $50 for LS7 lifters...well I gave hime $500 and got a LS1 longblock with a window on the pass side.

Two of the lifters dont want to come out...I told him and he is going to give me a full stock set.

So the good...
-ARP rod bolts
-Comp XE-R cam .595"/.598" 112 LSA and 232/234 duration @ .50" lift
-ARP head bolts
-Stock 853 heads w/ sodium filled valves and Comp 918 springs (not on when blew up)
-ARP head bolts
-Water pump, front/rear covers, and F-Body pan (for sale)

So I will see if my 5.3 will bore to 3.898" and swap the 7 good rods/pistons to it and I have another stock piston/rod at home.

All I need now is to figure out acc items and get the intake/MSD ignition box.

Thanks, plan is to run the LH8 pan since it's not lowered on the temp motor. I bought the $30 ebay LS swap plates so hopefull they set it in the right place. Also need to figure out accessories.

I tried just about all the pans and the fbody fit the best for me. I am using edlebrock motor plates. Nothing is a bolt in swap on these.

Well tonight I'm picking up a LS6 longblock for a steal! A friend w/ a 88 Monte has had a LS1, LS6, and now a LS7... I called for some motor input and he said he still had the LS6 torn apart. (Been like that for 4 yrs) He bought it a 9k miles and maybe put 15k on it before a rocker failed. He tore apart and found every needle in good shape and no damage but already had a LS7 crate on order... Comes with stock Z06 cam and I think good springs (had a big cam). No valve covers...

So how does $350 sound?? :D

Will have it on the engine stand tonight to start assembly. Going to use the ARP rod bolts, ARP head bolts, and cam from other LS1 I bought. Also plan to paint shortblock Chev orange to make it somewhat old school.

Ok, so not a LS6...guess I got confused in our conversation. But I do have a good 99 LS1 w/ low miles. Tonight I will clean the block up assemble shortblock. Going to pick up some VHT Chevy Orange engine paint as well.

Shortblock assembled but may sell as longblock if I can get a good chunk of $$. A local guy has a new and unassembled 408 rotating assembly he will sell to me for $2500. LQ9 block, Callies Compstar crank/rods, Wiseco pistons, big cam, and Clevite bearings. Not a bad deal!

Also pulled rear bumper and no surprises! Got 70 bumper but still need the brackets and lamps. I scored a set of NOS lenses I never knew existed. Most 70's have some silver paint on the lens but these are all red and made for 70 300 Classics during first half of production run.

Quickly hosed some paint while clip was off. Still waiting on core support, fenders, tie bar, and filler panel.

Also I cleaned the tired .060" over 350 up a little and put in a new cam/lifter set. Will probably only be in for a few thousand miles as I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a 6.0L LS motor.

So those headers are made for 64-77 but hit the shifter linkage bad. I got pissed and said screw it...may as well just do the LS motor now if I'm going to work at anything fitting. I put the 350 up for sale as well as other LS stuff.

Well motor is being sold for $750 Sat (have $150 in it) and trading 5.3 LS shortblock, 3 sets of stock LS heads, LS Edelbrock intake, ans MSD 6LS for a L76 longblock. L76 is an aluminum 6.0L with the L92/LS3 heads, VVT, and DOD/AFM.

Ordered the LS3 intake and valley cover together for $315.90 shipped. These are <20 mile take offs from SLP and include the injectors and fuel rail.

Deleting the DOD/AFM completely and VVT for now (may add VVT later). Already have LS3 timing set, lifter trays, and LS2 timing cover. Just need to find a good used bumpstick and order LS7 lifters.

Looking to do the Cherokee steering box this weekend and start figuring out the accessory layout!

Sweet setup! It sounds like you are quite the "wheeler dealer" here. Pretty cool to be able to swap things around and have those kind of connections.

Are you going to carb the LS or run the fuel injection? I am curious how other folks do this swap as I am planning out my 67.

Well I was thinking carb but intake and MSD will put you $600-$650 in it...

I am buying a GMPP stand alone harness, ECU, and DBW pedal from a local guy for $500. Intake was $300 and drive-by-wire TB will be $160 shipped (new). Other part to consider on EFI is the tank...I've heard GN is good option for budget. I would love the Rick's Stainless/Vaporworx but not sure I can spend that $ on a tank right now.

Carb option is easy to start with and after you collect EFI stuff someone will buy the carb stuff for a good amount still.

The more I look into it from scratch the best option is to figure out LS size you want and buy complete with harness/pedal(if DBW)/ECU...all the little stuff like sensors, accessories, and starter add up fast!!

More presents! Got the Doug's adapter plates and the Pypes 3" dual system with dual cutouts. Looks to be of great quality but will probably skip they're u-bolt clamps and go for some band clamps.

What are your plans to change the TR6060 to a splined slider output shaft (T56 Magnum) versus the rag joint?
I'm curious since I want to do the same thing, since TR6060's are MUCH cheaper and more available used than the T56 Magnum.

Is that from the Drive Shaft Shop? What HP is that type of joint good to? It looks like they basically move the splined slider to the DS? Does that DS allow you to take the black rubber isolator off the output of the TR6060, and just bolt up the slider adapter potion? I am just very interested since I would love to not have to convert a TR6060 if I don't have to.

Also, how much more is that DS than a "normal" Aluminum DS?

Driveshaft runs about $900 and is rated for 900HP. Not sure about tunnel fitment.

Well I started the engine build...mocked it up since I can't install heads until the lifter trays show up in 2 days. I also found a issue that many others seem to have. Lower half of can bearings are showing copper...but after much reading it is normal and even shows on some new crate motors.

Well I took a quick few measurements to see how much of the crossmember I will have to cut to fit the 98-02 f-body oil pan. Looks like it will be minimal!

Needed to do something visibly productive last night so I took the ugly cast aluminum alternator/power steering bracket and ground down the casting marks and painted with theVHT crinkle paint.

Parking brake cable was cut under car so decided to mount the 2011 clutch/master assembly there. Need to shorten pedal about 1.5"as well as adjust angle but it should get the job done for now.

Well a local Chevelle guy and I are going to upgrade the trunions on the stock LS rockers. Stock rockers with Comp trunions male for an excellent set of rockers. My stock rockers sure were loose! Add a big cam to them and I'm sure some of the needle bearings in that cup would be in my motor.

Took the stock ones apart in the bedroom...fiance appreciated it. :D

Stock frame stands and Energy Susp SBC motor mounts...

So yea 5 months of the car just sitting due to wedding and other peoples projects...I rolled it back to garage and finally installed starter and was able to crank motor over. Now to finish wiring up relay box for engine controller and I should be able to start car finally.

Also picked up a Ford 9" pumpkin...it's a stock take out with Trac Lock, 31 spline, and 3.50 gears. Going to order Daytona pinion support and 1350 yoke.

For housing it looks like I'm picking up the Moser M9 housing/axle package. My question before I order is should I just get stock width or any narrower?

Spoke with Tobin at Kore 3 about options for brakes and he helped out with a lot of information for ordering rear end housing. Looks like I'll order a M9 with big bearings but Chevy ends so for the interim I'll run the stock drums from my 10 bolt. lol

I like the valve and timing covers. I am thinking about doing the same thing with a textured black paint. I am going to attempt to cut and smooth all of the coil pack bosses off of the valve covers as I will be remote mounting them.

Haven't fired yet but I pulled motor/trans to pull 6 speed to run TH400 temporarily. Buys me some time to get rear/driveshaft figured out. Now I can concentrate on getting on road.

I did pick up a 72 Monte dash complete with 2 clusters (idiot lights) and harness for $280. Came blue with the normal wood grain fascia. So I cleaned it and painted it with someold SEM landau black I had...

Then I started searching for places to wrap in carbon and came accross Mark Wu of Wu Wraps...I was pretty impressed with his work. The 3M carbon he does looks great. (I hate fake carbon but this looks damn good) So it was $100 as it has 18 cut outs. He said he could do all the wood inside my Saab Trollblazer SS for $150-$200 as an example of price.

Got my driveshaft...went to wrecking yard in town and searched. This one was sitting there by itself with a light from heaven shining down upon it...lol Has the correct yoke for a TH400. I just need cut yoke by about 2". It's from a 95 S10 4x4 and was all of $45!

So it drives my wife nuts but I can't stay off CL...

Down on vacation in Phoenix and bought some LS7 (C6 Z06) parts. The car had dropped an intake valve and killed #1 piston but no damage to rod.

For $700 I bought the following...
Stock forged 4" crank (most LS motors have 3.622")
Full set of titanium rods and 7 pistons (not using pistons)
LS7 cam
LS7 lifters
Dry sump oil pan
Oil pump
Valley cover
Front/Rear engine covers
Cam/Crank sensor (these suckers can add up)

So I will sell LS7 cam for like $100. And I was looking for the lifters for a 5.3 I'm building so that saved me $60 that I was going to spend on used ones.

I will have to run a custom piston as the LS7 titanium rods are 6.067" whereas stock is 6.098" and most of the shelf 4" stroker setups use 6.125". These rods also have a smaller wrist pin (.925 vs. .927). And I have a 3.99" bore where the LS7 has a 4.125". I'll go 4.005" which will make a 403". Should be kinda rev happy for a stroker with the lighter combo of crank and titanium rods!*

Hey Craig, how ya been?

I was building a carb setup and ended up trading it for this alum 6.0L w/ L92 heads.

I did buy a 5.3L for $175 recently and put the carb intake/MSD 6LS and sold for $1500 (made $700+) so I just bought another 5.3L and am doing the cheap high compression build to sell. Gotta make some cash where I can for this Chevelle!

I also went over to the guys house that did my Monte Carlo dash fascia in carbon vinyl and had him do the a-pillars while I waited. Not a bad little side biz he has...makes like $500-$1000 a week. Day job is making teeth.

Car is close enough that I will install on lunch today.

Pump works fine but I'm curious to see how it is in corners with slightly low fuel.

was it hard to hook up etc....what about fuel lines and filter what did you do there? did you have any problems? curious because this seems to be a cheap alternative for the fuel system..... which is one of the biggest cost of going ls

I used Corvette FPR/filter (~$30), EFI fittings, and some Aeromotive fuel line (like black rubber) that pushes on.

The factor fuel rail and filter have the male babed ends that fittings normally click on to. The fitting below pushes on nice and firm and the U-shaped piece is a threaded nut so you slide on and thread in to secure.

Guess I should update...

Well I sold motor for a little profit after about an hour of run time. I had someone interested and I knew down the road when I wanted to boost I would need to replace pistons and rods. So it made more sense to sell assembled and piece together another. I kept all accessories, mounts, and headers...sold TB to pan.

So I started assembling a 5.3L with 4.8 flat tops, ported 5.3 heads, and carb setup. After I had all pistons in I pulled old cam and discovered a gouge in cam bearing so I didn't touch for a while.

Dec I picked up a 99 Vette for $11,900. Had 56k, 6 speed, heads/cam, CCW wheels, high rise hood, stock hood, stock wheels on Hoosier track tires, and chrome Z06 wheels on worn out street tires. Sold the CCW's and netted $1500 after all expenses. Well that distracted me once again from Chevelle.

Well I just sold the 5.3 for what I'm in it. It's home will be in a 79 K5 Blazer.

I did pick up a LQ4 a couple months ago that said rebuidable. I pulled heads and all pistons looked like they were burning clean. No play on big rod ends. Pulled #8 rod bearing and it is beatiful. Lifters appear to be newer style and in good shape. So screw it...gonna run it!

For now it will just get my MS4 cam that is sitting on shelf and my 243 heads (I got a complete '08 4.8 for free) to help bump up compression. Also found a nice stand alone harness and ECU so I should be able to get thing back up and running quickly!

Sold the LQ4...buddy needed it quick for his Turbo Notch Fox build. Also sold 243 heads and maybe cam.

I have another LQ4 that is at machine shop right now. Having it hot tanked, honed, and new cam bearings. Picked up a fresh 10/10 crank for $85 yesterday from a machine shop that closed its doors a few years back. Was still in storage there. Bought a 236/248 .623/.623 114 cam that will work well with LS3 CNC heads. (made 538rwhp on a 403 w/ LS7 heads) Valve springs arrived and trunion kit for rockers ordered. Trying to secure a deal on some LS2 pistons/rods with ARP rod bolts today.
