I can't get the idea out of my head... I wan to dump my exhaust out the side of the b-pillar. Similiar to the harbinger mustang, or Vaughn gitten rtr-x. For the most part I know how I'm going to do the fab work etc. My plan is to remove the rear seats and rework the floor to make a sort of Exhaust tunnel. My plan is to rework the floor and box it into the b-pillar on the inside. When all is said and done It will be boxed in so the exhaust never actually enters the interior. I have a few concerns with this.

first off is heat- I'm thinking it should be no different than running your exhaust up tight to your floor? Thinking some exhaust wrap and sound deadening should do the trick? This is going in a second gen f-body.

My other concern was vibration. The rtr-x mustang looks as if the exhaust just exits the side of the body, not actually attaching to it. Where as the harbinger mustang has a S.S.(?) plate thats welded to the exhaust tip and riveted to the body.

I seem to often have to remind myself that this is a weekend street warrior, and not a race car...but I really can't get the idea out of my head. If I don't go threw with it I'll just keep thinking about it. So why do you think this is a good/bad idea?

what if you use the rocker panel to route the exhaust back to the b pillar, just in front of the wheel opening, kind of like a side pipe but attached to the car like the rocker panel is.

Are you saying to route the exhaust so it actually run threw between the inner and outer rocker?

If not, and you are just saying to cut a hole in the rocker... then the torque box and frame rail create alot of clearance issues.

I'm thinking that if you cut the rocker along the length of the car, then using a 4" pipe that is welded in place of the cut away part of the rocker you would be able to route a 2 1/2" pipe inside the 4 inch pipe wrapped with insulation and have it exit before the rear wheel like an attached side pipe. I'm still studying this idea for my 67 Firebird, but I think it will work if the pipe is as strong as the rocker once it is welded to the body. Somebody tell me I'm wrong and why so I can learn something about this.

Eleanor clones go through the rear torque box:

They'd be a little low still, but it's an idea.
