Ok so I was thinking the other day while looking at the new zl1 camaro about heat soak and how to prevent it and such. Igot the crazy dead of switching the exhaust and intake ports around. So the exhaust points face up Nd the intake would be where the manifolds were. It makes since because heat rises and hot air makes for less power so if the intake is below the exhaust, wouldn't that help with heat soak drastically? I understand this prolly wouldn't work on a front engine car, I got the idea for a scratch built open wheel car I would love to build one day. Am I crazy or is it somewhat logical? I know it would be very expensive to get a set of one off heAds built for a ls style engine but is the layout of the valves and such acceptable for this to be possible?

Anything is possible... Probable...likely not! Its that kind of creative thinking that has made Hot Rodding so much fun though!. Ive got some motors for R&D when your ready... Welcome to the site, its a lot of fun around here!

Haha did I mention I'm only 18? I've got a while to go to even think of affording it, but thanks for the encouragement.

Cadillac flathead V8s had the exhaust and intake on the top. Do a search for Ron Main and the Flatfire streamliner it had the exhaust on the top as well and ran 300 mph at bonneville.

I think Smokey or someone did that with early Chevy Indy engines.

funny you mention that about the cadillacs as i remember seeing somewhere that the northstar v8s found in cadilacs heads could be turned around with very little modification and run like i described.
