Average wheel clearance needed in wheel wells?

      Hey guys,

Was wondering what a good average number was for wheel clearance in the wheel wells. Is 3/4" to 1" enough clearance for a daily driver?

That will be plenty. I am designing BadAst to run .5 clearance to the wheel lips "inner" edge with trimming or rolling an option if more is needed. Personally I like a tire bulge to run as close to the outer edge of the well as possible, using backspacing and tire size to get it there if I'm not doing axle work.

Tire sidewall will also play a factor in the clearance you need.

On my 67 Cutlass, I have 14.5" of room from the inner wheel well to the outer fender. The entire wheel well is alot more "square" then rounded off like chevelles/GTOs. I bought some 19x11 wheels. I figure even with a 295 or 305 tire I will have about 2" of clearance left to play with. I want to take advantage of the space and stick the biggest widest possible tire in there.

Any tire sidewall bulge at all and I would loose even more room. The tire is going to have to fit the wheel perfectly.

I plan on trimming the fender and welding in round bar for strength/more space. .5" of clearance is pretty close!

A Bodies being Triangle 4 bars limit side to side movement to little to none. For what is is worth, on leaf spring cars like Camaros, leaf springs swing like jump ropes side to side and require a lot more clearance.

On your car I would not be afraid of 1/2" per side of tire at full bump. How firm the car is, hoiw much lean it will have plays into this but on a typical Pro Touring car with performance springs, 1/2" is plenty
