this is my favorite part about the whole truck i think, is this stupid little SS 3/8 16 bolt that i drilled out and made into a breather for the axle. granted i still the design from ford, its kinda the ATD im going with

Ridetech 4.1" 32 way adjustable compressing and rebound

The passanger side has gone smooth. When i talked to ridetech they said no one there has made C5 front suspension work on airbags... well i have. i made plates for the Control Arm that integrated the shock mounts with the plate as well as clamping the L channel of the arm (since it it forged aluminum). I didnt want to drill it because forged aluminum is prone for cracking at a hole without a boss, and you cannot weld it without losing its structure.

Then the driverside frame got in the way.... so i cut the frame back apart and am sleeving the tubing for the rack and pinnion steering shaft (didnt have the shocks when i made it)

this was 4 hours making this friggin hole. wish my plasma didnt kick the can.. had to torch cut it then use a carbide...

this should be done tomorrow and i can get back onto the frame making.

chris ill post the c5 buckets when they are actually done, they are tacked in place incase i have to move them more to the side when making the top control arm/ shock loop

haha thanks, Im using every thing i have learned from the fabrication shop and my love for old school classic hot rods and whatnot as well as just learning as i go and figuring everything out.

i got the hole to line up with the frame piece tonight, so i cut transfer paper around the tube for all 4 sides of the box tubing, and transfered it onto a new piece. had i done it all over again i would have used some stiff template paper and cut it to fit all 4 sides of the missing area. Had i really redone it i would have used cad and drawn it up and cut the tube on the laser at work. but time does not allot for that

Thanks to Ron S and a bunch of other intelligent people in the Search section of Disc Brakes,
I Ordered my Wilwood Pedal assembly and 7/8 Tandem Master Cylinder as well as clutch master. there is tons of info that i read up on about what to go with especially going from power to manual brakes, And what one guy said on a link to Lateral G, "If there is a rod hanging out the side of the car, manual brakes will still come to a stop"

pedals had to be moved toward the seat so i made a box to fit everything and mount the assmblies and fitted it

then somehow after i got them in the measurement was off in the height 2 inches... so i had to cut it back out and decided id do it legit and cut all my driver firewall out

passenger firewall is done and seam sealed around the inside... driver side is being a PITA with that pedal box, but ill make it work, gotta cut the box down about in inch, trying to get as much leg room as possible.

I almost went with a Chevy bolt pattern on my Plymouth. I custom ordered the rear and I could have changed my Wilwood hubs around. I stayed with the factory pattern. Sometimes I wish I would have so I could have snagged a used set of premium wheels easier.

It's good to have options though.

Issue with Wilwood hubs or anything for that matter is 5.5 on 5 isn't a typical pattern, and never one for any sort of race application. Kinda sucks but in living with it. I really dont want to run adapters but there isn't enough room to drill such a large pattern

Tonight i ordered an Ididit tilt steering column, and cut all but a half inch off the pedal box, and i dropped the driver floor down 3" so the pedals could move forward. it wasnt perfectly comfortable when i was sitting in it so i figured do it now instead of regreting it later...

Got the upper A arms tacked into location with extra tubing to notch, and tested how far the suspension travel is. and it will drop to the ground stuffing the 20's on corvette c5 suspension. pretty pumped about that.

also finished the center section to my firewall had it all laser cut at work/ as well as redesign and welded in the pedal box

then got a roll on the engine cover since the center section of the firewall will be tigwelded to the engine cover i wanted to prove everything out before i started at it

Tonight i tackled one of the hardest things ive had to do yet, and thats make a contoured cut in a blind area, it came out fantastic and do not think i could ever do it so nice again if i had to.

oh and i forgot to mention i had to pull the cab off and shorten the frame 1.5" because the truck isnt factory wheel base anymore for some reason... the front wheel was off center 3"... so the motor is back 1.5" more now so i had to remake the engine tunnel wider and also made it higher for the future fuel rails, 3" higher

Been a while since last update, got the whole front engine cage and upper control arm tacked together, started making the power steering brackets since I've been Waiting and trying new pullys for the past month, gonna see if I can snag a pair of z06 wheels to mock up in the front for steering purposes since right now I either need to raise my wheel well or roll my front fenders wide body style 3+ inches on each side..., mostly because the corvette weeks have such a large offset

i ended up having to reroute the belt again because the crank only had 1/4 belt on the pully, so i machined a mount using the C5 ac tensioner and stock idler pully (wider) so i could run the tensioner on a straight section of belt

I also want to thank Randy Probell again for lettiing a kid he barely met once, borrow a set of z06 wheels and hoosier slicks, guy would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it and is a great guy, very intellegent in the sport as well

he may have a line on Z06 front breaks for me too,

Same here. I would like to see more trucks in the pro-touring scene. Obviously the extent of my project isn't needed for the average guy but I look at it like my fabrication resume. Regardless I hope to have the cage in place tomorrow. We will see

steering was fun, Ididit columns use a oval shaft and finding a nice joint for that was near impossible, so i indexed a moroso one and machined the oval out.

i finish welded the tunnel and ground off the excess meterial. about 8 grinding wheels and alot of headaches

i lasered these new wheel centers out to convert the 5.5 - 4.5 lug pattern for the corvette front, this brought my front wheels in about an inch on each side, and i changed to a smaller tire up front so now the 20" steel street wheels will work. then ill buy some vette wheels to run on the track.

and i got bored on thanksgiving so ditched doing lunch and finished my headers, deleted the egr ports and tigg'ed on the flanges inside and outside



Im looking into Z06 front brakes (c6) and putting my c5 front callipers in the rear. not sure if ill have to trade wilwood masters for that set up since i have 2, 7/8 bore masters but i will figure it all out if i get them or not.

I did. It was fun and challenging but I enjoy machining so it didn't bother me. I can't stand accessories being out up and away, I like things tucked in and low, sadly that's the ONLY place for the alternator because of its depth

took a fridged ride in the local gorcery getter to get the tree saturday:

this weld was the sh*ttiest thing ive had to do, i had to drill the plate with a 1/4 inch bit to reviel the bottom side of the tube to weld it since there was no way to get the welder in there.

I am really enjoying this build as well, lets get some updates!

worked my ass off this new years break, 14 hour work day on saturday working on this pig
it all started.....
Thursday when my axle shafts came back from moser for the resize for the C5 front brake adaptation im making. and i want all the lug patterns the same (4.75 on 5)

then long story short non of the hubs matched up and the flange OD was too large, chucked it up and turned my shiney just resurfaced axle shafts.
Then i had to bore the center hub of the rotors to fit the 9" then lasercut brackets to fit the rotors

I then turned some custom spacers on both sides. one to fit the odball bolt that came OEM on the C5 front calipers, and the other to space the new weld on bracket i lasercut away from the flange of the axle

I did what i had to do to the front wheels to the rear (lug convert the 5.5 on 5 to 4.75 on 5 which involved welding in a new hub piece. got the wheels on and finished the X on the back of the cage, as well as other small loose ends

there is the spline for the sweetmfg quick release, i made an allen headed nut to slip into the 3/4 shaft and welded it in with a 9/16 fine thread to adapt to the column.

ill have the column wheel cover done tomorrow, laser cutting it machining it out of stainless and reaming a .997" id to press fit that splined shaft at the bottom

made a steering column cover.
started with a 4" blank, then made a press fit onto the splined shaft and dished out the backside to go over the column, lots of fun on a manual southbend :)

finished my steering shaft, each bolt has a 7/8 grip length and then perpendicular to the grip i put a 1/4 28 set screw to push it against it so there is absolutely no play. came out better than i hoped, just wish i could get button heads with a big grip length

got the door bars done, also bought a new daily driver, so ive been working on that alot as well

got the left hand thread in the steering wheel done and am now working on steering pillow block bearing and the engine cage just need to get the right bolts for it

instead of welding the splined shaft onto the steering column (which has a standard GM splined 7/16 nut for the steering wheel) i made the splined part a 7/16 threaded ID to spin onto the column then drilled the center of the column for a left hand 1/4-20, so god forbid it ever came loose while driving, it will actually tighten the second thread

We don't have a standard sheet per-se, but our radiators for this application are 2" thick at the core, and about 3.5" wide overall including the tanks. The radiator utilizes two 1" thick cores, for a total core thickness of 2" (this is the same overall thickness as a 4-core style brass & copper unit). The width was based on a big-block truck radiator, and will keep what you have cool. In regular driver vehicles I recommend our standard fan kit. But for those with big engines, boost, autocrossing, etc., I recommend our upgraded fan kit as its worth every cent.

I do the same thing, but just do the math for a shop & the guy with the check book.
that part took you 4hr's at $65-$100pr/hr. that's $260-$400 in labor for that part, most customers don't see the benefit of most one off parts.

I understand that, but I highly doubt the ididit one was made by hand, ad a CNC would punch this thing out in 15 minutes definitely not a $90 CNC part. If my iron worker had a 2" die I would have had it done in 2 hours

I want to do something similar with a K5. K5 and C5 have very close to the same wheel base so I'm going to look at hogging out a K5 tub to fit on the C5 chassis and get a buddy to bend up a full cage like yours.

and alot of welding, and i have the whole skeleton of the cage welded. this week i hope to have the door bars and the rear X done so i can dissasemble the truck and pull it off the chassis jig

and i made my steering shaft support bearing and bracket. used a 7/8 OD 3/4" ID needle bearing with a double seal. steering is really tight other than the dent in the rack that i just found out about. it has a little stiff spot when its about streight. think i should buy a new one or run it for a little?

so it was time. pull the whole truck apart and rotate the frame so it can be welded top and bottom. i rotated it on the chassis jig before i cut it off and welded all opposing sides. i then cut the jig off upside down, rolled the frame and assembled the front and rear suspension. about 3 hours of welding and 12 hours of hard labor. she was on wheels last night at 3 am, first time in 5 years.

had a hell of a time finding out i had the wrong throwout bearing, i tried putting the tranny in while the motor was in and i couldnt get anything to fit and when i pulled it apart the shaft was 3/8 too long, and between that and the above issue i was about to lose it. never been more stressed out.

funny story. back in highschool (6 years ago) I wasn't allowed into a carshow at the "cruise night" where a bunch of mopar guys hung out, but was packed with other makes and models as well. when I pulled in a flagger waved me on "no farm trucks".. needless to say I left there sliding sideways bouncing off limiter in 2nd

im pretty excited to see some reactions when its out in public. as much as I want it to be nice sounding (kinda loud) I wish I could make it really quiet. decent sleeper I presume

quiet with good flow and a nice note. even my dual 3 inch with the smallest super turbos is somewhat quiet. id assume that you could fit some large mufflers in there and really quiet things down. then just use some cut outs when you want loud.

waiting on finding some door handles off a landrover series 1 for my handles and i just ordered 5 new dimple died (friggin 525$) so i can make that front radiator support something else....

So I finally got my rear bumper mounted, as well as my front bumper. Pulled it outside to see it in the daylight, and made all my seat bars to get my seats and harnesses in. Ordered my custom gauges from speed hut (made in USA), cant wait to show all of you.

Thanks Tig and KBS, is it bad that i made the trophies? i told them they needed to pick someone else but they insisted, each trophy took about a half hour to polish and assemble without cut time.

What gauge aluminum are you using in the engine bay? Can you tell us more about the riveting there as well?

You bolted the rear cage to the frame with a threaded plate. What did you use to make it? Are there welded nuts on the back of that plate?

The inner fenders are 18g 3003 Aluminum, the rivets are aircraft 1/8 button heads that I made my own die and ball peened each one, I just purchased the proper riveting head for the air hammer last week
the plate is 3/16" and the frame is 3/16" thick, welded the plate to the frame, drilled the holes and tapped them

I wish I had, I purchased rust billets chassis paint kit, it comes with a phosphoric acid to etch the scale on the metal, worst idea ever. I followed all directions and you're supposed to wipe it off with warm water. Well when we did it it came back and kept etching it, we usedLacquer and scotch brute but it still ****ed with the paint. Black coat on top now. I just finished painting so I'll snag pics tomorrow
