69 mustang with 18x9 wheels up front?

This guy says he is doing it with the stock style suspension and fitting a 265 tire up there!

      http://www.1969stang.com/mustang/for...ad.php?t=10290

I think he said hes just using a spacer up front.. I LOVE the stance and the tire/wheel combo.

Any mustang experts on here think it can really be done?

      Thanks, Matt

Yep & I've seen people running a 275 tire up front with rolled lips and TCP suspension.

From what i've found the best way is with a carefully measured backspace & i'm gonna bet that the guy on 69stang is running 1-1/2-2inch spacer.

well that guy is runnning fr500's so the backspacing is set up for the 94-04 bodystyle mustangs I believe.

I'm running the same wheels on my car. The front won't work without a spacer. I made a couple of 7/16" spacers for the front. I also bought some longer ARP wheel studs and modified them to work in the stock rotors.I did the Shelby/Arning drop on the control arms, cut the bump off of the tops and reangled the balljoints by cutting 10 deg. pie sections out of the upper control arm to angle them down to keep them from binding. I also cut close to 3/4 of a coil off of the stock springs. I'm running 295/35s on the rear with a 1 inch bolt on spacer. The rear is lowered from forty years of use.

Dee T that car is sick! And the thing about the spacer is exactly what Ive been told because I was told the wheel will not clear the uca/upper balljoing without one. Does yours clear with only a 7/16" spacer?

also how much roon do you have to the fender lips?

my suspension setup is cut front coils. reverse eye 5 leaf leaf springs out back with 1" blocks. Im waiting one the funds to get the Maier racing race shocks to try to help the car not bounce

      Thanks, Matt

No, the leading edge of the control arm sticks just inside of the wheel with the 7/16 spacer. That's why I cut the domes off of the tops of the control arm. I'm pretty sure that the Mustang can use a thicker spacer than the Cougar, primarily because of the shape of the wheel arch. The Mustang leading edge is farther forward than the Cougars which is why I made my own. The 1/2 inch spacer would let the tire get into the lower leading edge of the wheel arch with the steering turned more than 15 deg. Fender lip clearance was never an issue. Also another thing to keep in mind is the upper brace that holds the bump stop rubber. I have noticed under hard driving conditions that the tire will just come in contact with the brace, so a thicker spacer will probably suit your needs better. I plan on upgrading my brakes and suspension this winter so I will be modifying the bump stop/brace to rectify that problem.

Very Nice Cougar. As soon as I can get someone to loan me a 18X9 or 18X10, Im going to trial fit it on my Maverick. A 275 up front would be awesome.

Thanks Guys! Like I said. I will be doing some work on the brakes and suspension this winter. I have a set of spindles that will drop the front about 3/4inch. so i hope to be able to do away with the spacers on the front. I can't decide whether I just want to make my own front suspension or just buy it. I'd like to find a coilover shock that has a built in bump stop. That way I will be able to revamp the brace/bumpstop to keep the tires from rubbing altogether. I have seen a few cars that have them totally removed, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not. The brace is really what keeps you from running a wide tire up front. I don't think you will be able to put a 275 up front mainly because of that brace. I'm pretty sure the Cougar fenders have more room under them than your Maverick but i could be wrong.

this guy has custom outer shock towers that are shallower so they dont bind on wide tires.
