reupholstery for recaro sport seats

just picked up a pair of recaro seats and went to a shop to see how much they would want to get them recovered, they said 800 per seat... can I just do it myself? or would I be better off just selling them. The fabric isn't to bad its just discolored/faded, could i use some kind of paint that wouldn't damage the clothe fabric?

Try a fabric dye.. SEM products are good..

$800 per seat? In what material if I may ask? I would expect $800 for both in most none leather materials.

If you dont care about safety go for it. Every seat i saw listed is a knock off of some other companies seat. Same seats you see fs all over the jdm sites. They use very low grade materials in these. I have literally seen the bottoms rip out from just applying too much pressure to the back of the seat. Its like a pot metal. The fixed backs arent much better. You would honestly be better off getting a set of the race seats they sell at like shucks orileys if you want to stay in a tight budget or going with a cheaper omp model/used seat.

Even the "higher end" asian made seats are sketchy. You can see the comparison crash test video of a recaro and a bride in my resource guide.

I know this sounds bias since i restore recaros but its really not the case. The metal in alot of these seats is the same metal they use when they make these knock off nardi wheels..

This is also why i warn people about fake nardi's and other cheap steering wheels bought from online shops. This is obviously the cheapest knock off you can buy as they dont even come in a real nardi box like the fakes i have warned people about in the past (deep corn), but even the more expensive ones are not a ton better. Do you really want to end up impaled on one of these, or sit in a seat that uses a similar grade of material??

I was under the impression that Arizen was better than the Ebay JDM's?

People call them different names and sell them for different prices, but when you boil it all down they are the same seats coming from the same place. Ask where they are made, if they have has any sort of dot approval, if they are fia approved and so on.

If they say anything other then asia and "no" they are feeding you a line of bs. Im not just saying this to promote recaros either. There are a ton of quality name brand seats you can get at a good price. OMP makes some really nice and affordable seats, as well as cobra, corbeau and many others.

Disgusted! I know they were on here a few years ago pumping that trash. If they ARE selling any of those seats they are making a killing. I bought some cheapo's from Summit for like 100 a seat just so I would have to sit on a 5 gallon bucket. Doesn't look like the Arizen's are much better than what I have.

The one seat that is obviously the same as the jdm knock off they sell for $700 while you can buy it on the jdm site for under $200.
