I was test fitting my parking brake cables this weekend and was having trouble getting the end of the cable into the pedal assembly. I then noticed what appears to be a defect in the way the cable was made. It looks like the crimp, circled in red, should actually go in the location circled in green. With the crimp in the current location you can't pull enough cable to attach to the pedal. The spring gets compressed too much. Does this look like a bad cable?? It's a Rabestos cable and I have usually had very good success/quality with their products.

Wow no replies. Well I was able to confirm my suspicions with the help of the nice folks at NPD. I had them pull one of their cables and compare it to a picture of my cable I faxed to them. The crimp in the center definately is not supposed to be there. So I plan to see if I can loosen it and get it to slide up to the threaded rod. Or maybe remove it all together. But, I'm afraid if I remove it the threaded rod may pull through the spring. I may also be able to put a different crimp on the cable next to th threaded rod. Or just buy a new cable from NPD.

Just FYI local parts places carry that cable in stock. Advance Auto Parts had one for my 67 and if nothing else you can spend $15 to confirm your suspicions. I ended up using theirs, it didn't look too bad and worked good enough for me.

Actually Advance is where I got the one I have. My Inline Tube version arrives today. Will be interesting to see the diff.

I just checked my 67 original cable, it matches the cable in your photo. 4" from green circled threaded end to ferrule, from the cable jacket fitting to ferrule is 6". Hope this helps.
