Hello to all,

I usually do more reading and learning from you guys than asking but I'm at a cross roads with my 69 Camaro.

I have talked with Don at A.M. about their new Max G chassis. I think it will be a great product but for my intended use, I think it will be drastic over kill.

My situation is this, I have a new one piece floor, trunk and rockers all tacked in place in the car. I have zero confidence in the rear frame rails staying straight and holding up due to rust. I will mini tub this car so part of the frame rails will go away any way. I'm looking for opinions on installing one of A.M. rear clips, be it a ladder bar set up, 4 bar or triangulated 4 bar. I would like to maintain as much of the factory floor look as possible....no pro street, tubbed out look.

I was ready to order DSE's rear kit but after looking at the A.M. stuff, I think this would solve most of my concerns.

My intended use will be strictly street use, there are no road race courses around central Florida, so handling will be important but not to the extent as most of you look for. My front end set up will consist of tubular arms and possibly a coil over conversion with all the usuall other upgrades.

Thanks for any input.

Tim

I too am looking to go this route although I plan on putting the entire Max G chassis under my 68 camaro. I would also like opinions from the experts on this board as to what to expect from this chassis over stock unibody. I will be ordering it with A.M.'s front suspension rather than the C5 front suspension. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Chris

Tim- I might be a little biased, but our trianglulated 4-bar works great for the application you want. Art's 55 has this suspension under it. He has pounded the car for 4000 miles and it works great!

Our IFS works very well. Again, its the suspension that we have on our GTSport chassis that is under the Tri5's. I just started building a 53 Stude for my wife and it will have our IFS up front and tri 4-bar in the rear.

Hope this helps. If either of you are ever up in the Pacific NW stop by the shop and go for a test ride in the 55 to see how this suspension feels.

I installed an AM 4-bar setup with QA1 coilovers in my 69 camaro. I am very happy with the results. I've put about 1000 miles on the car already (driving to and from the Pigeon Forge event) I still need to dial things in before autocrossing, I will go a little stiffer on my rear springs, but I am impressed with the results so far.

69...how did the setup tie into the stock trunk and floor pans? Were you able to create the mini tub effect?

Thanks for the reply's!

I have installed the 4 bar in my 70 camaro so far so good, it will be a very long time before I drive it but the fit and engineering looks good, also built custom mini tubs using stock outers.

Craig,

Looking to purchase a max g chassis for a 68 camaro from you on August 1st. I would appreciate any pictures you could post also. I spoke with I believe Don and he informed me that the chassis does not come with motor mounts attached to the frame. Is there an option to have them installed at your factory, set up for a Big block chevy? It will be ordered with your front suspension so as far as I know the engine does not need to be set back as with the c5 suspension. Thanks for the help. Chris

WOW! Big Dave at A.M. faxed me a little drawing of the clip, if I read his notes correctly this will accomodate a 345/25/20 tire!

Hi Tim,

I was in a similar situation as you...the whole back end of the car was rusted out (originally from Ohio, like myself).

I replaced the frame rails with rails from S&W racecars. They fit the factory floor contour. The ones I ordered would work with leaf springs, but I ended up installing a triangulated 4 bar with qa1 coilovers. It's solid as a rock and I minitubbed it...in fact, I have room to spare.

The point of my post is that there are many options if you are willing to replace the frame rails. I would not consider what I did as expensive. And I certainly don't what to take anything away from the Art Morrison products... with their reputation I'm sure it is a quality solution. But once you open yourself up to essentially back halving your car...which is really what your talking about...there are a ton of options.

I'm in Tallahassee if you ever get up this way. Feel freeto contact me if you want to see some pics or have questions.

Craig,

Is it possible to have engine mounts for a big block chevy and transmission mount for a turbo 400 installed from the factory or is this a definite do it at home type thing? The frame I order will have your suspension rather than the C5if this helps dimension wise. I will be placing an order for one of these frames in the beginning of August. Thanks Chris

nvm I found the prices in a similar forum on lateral-g.net sounds like a great price for what you get.

"The price for one of these chassis with tri-4 bar rear and C5 front is $12473. That is a fully welded chassis with sway bars, shocks (single adj Strange), springs, RE housing, Strange 3rd member with your gear choice & posi unit, 31 spline Strange axles, power rack (20:1 or 15:1 ratios), all the C5 components direct from Chevrolet (not used pieces), Corvette C5 brakes up front & Wilwood brakes in the rear.

With C5 front suspension, you will be limited to Vette backspacing on the wheels and will need to move the motor back about 5" to clear R&P, which aren't really bad things since you will have a very small scrub radius and killer weight balance https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2005/07/biggrin1-1.gif

The price for this chassis with tri-4 bar and our IFS up front is $1056.00 that includes all of the above but with our IFS up front and brakes are our 11" disc kit in front and the SVO disc kit in the rear. Other brake upgrades are available. With the IFS you don't have the dramatic engine setback due to its rack location and have a larger variety of wheels to choose from."

Kevin- there is one typo in there. It is $10056.00. We do have a few different options, air, IFS, C5 front or air, 4-bar, tri 4-bar rear. Rear-end is narrowed to your tire/wheel package.

Sorry gotta catch a plane to Columbus, if you have any other questions, please let me know!
