255/40-17 on -68 Firebird, is it possible

Does anyone know if it is possible to run 255/40-17 on -68 Firebird with stock sub frame. I have GW UCA/ Hotchkis 2" drop springs and uses Vintage works V48 17x8 with 4.75 BS.

You can make them work up front but I suggest a 5.5" back space. 255's are only 1/2" wider than 275's so 275's up front are possible but you may have to roll fender lip.

      A 245/45/17 will clear on an 8" wheel with 5" backspacing .
A 255 is not much wider but the backspacing needs to be right .
      4.75" backspacing probabaly won't work .

either I go with 245/40-17 or 255/40-17, but since Michelin PS2 (I have 335/35-17 PS2 rear tires) is not aviable in 245 I thought it might be possible with 255.

Try it! I have those same wheels with the same backspacing on 245/45 tires. I use a 1/8" spacer for caliper clearance, not for fender clearance. I plan to try 255/40 tires next as I don't get any rubbing now even at full steering lock. Although I kept the end stop stubs on my control arms full height, so that takes away some of my turning radius.
