Shaved Tires?

Anyone here run them or has in the past? I realize that you are getting less tread life from them but past that, are there any other disadvantages? Is it even worth doing for autocross?

Second, who does it? I know tirerack offers that service but only if you buy the tires from them. These are kdw's that I won at a GG show, so I have no money invested.

**edit** just checked Goodguys rules and they clearly specify no shaved tires but I am still interested on feedback from anyone who has used them. Thanks
