What do you guys think of wheel spacers or adaptors?

I will be buying some custom wheels in which the offsets are to big for my car.
I will need to run about a 1inch spacer on the rear and 1/2 in spacer on the front.
WOuld spacers or wheel adaptors be more safe to run???
The wheels are 18x9 with 6in backspacing.

Hey Mr Mopar, adapters are safer because you are utilizing 2 sets of studs. Not sure you can get them that thin? What do you have going?

      what do you have going?

I am going to put some 18x9 Bullitt wheels on my 70 Charger RT as these wheels are very affordable.
Plus I havent seen any other wheels that seem to look "right".

      Might work...

If you use fat ARP studs and torque them evenly. A 1/2" spacer is not too bad as long as you use 1/2"+ ARP (or similar high strength) wheel studs. Not sure how they would hold up to major cornering stresses though. If you find a 1" adapter it would be the way to go, just make sure you buy them from a company that stands behind their products and others have used them with success. I have 1.25" adapters on my 92 Toyota pickup using 16x8 Camaro wheels with 225/50/16's, lowered at least 3" front and rear. Yeah it's only a Toyota pickup but I have a shell, bedliner, carpet kit, and tube bumpers adding weight to the rear so it handles like a regular car for the most part. I drive it very hard, hitting very close to the slip angle on every freeway onramp and offramp that I can. Someday the adapters may fail and then I am in trouble, but I have run them for 3 years with no problems, got them from some CA company that advertised in a truck mag.

Check out Vette Brakes & Products billet adapters. They make sizes from 3/4" to around 3" thick. I've used their 1" & 2" units w/o problems.

i have heard form numerous peolple that adapters under high toque do not hold up very well. also the stress during hard cornering. i have 1" units to fit the wheels i currently have, i hate them, and it bothers me while driving. i noticed the studs ahve worn the material around the seat. i got new wheels coming so i dont have to worry about it anymore. just my 2 cents though.

Make sure to ONLY use steel or BILLET aluminum spacers/adapters. I had a set of the cheapo cast 1 inch adapters on the front of my car for a very short time. I backed out of my driveway one day and when I cut the wheel hard left and started forward the adapter BROKE and the right front wheel almost fell off! I got a set of billet adapters from one fo the guys on e-bay offering a lifetime warranty and have had no problems at all.
