Anyone use 4l80e from early GM 1 ton

I'm trying to get back into builing my car after having some financial difficulty I was doing some reading and found that early 91-93 1 ton GM diesel trucks had 4L80's with standalone controllers. I was wondering if anyone here has tryied one of these units or know someone that has. Can you see any problems with using this setup? It will be going behind a 455 Olds motor. I have access to one being parted out and was considering picking up the trans and controller, etc.

      Big dreams, small pockets....

It will be a challenge. I've done it before but ended up using a gas computer and distributor in a carbureted 402. The rpm signal on the diesel comes from a 2 wire inductive sensor on the oil pump drive so in order to get the right rpm signal I used the gas distributor which the computer controlled the timing as well. Hooking up the throttle position sensor to the carb was a challenge getting it to send the right signal at idle and WOT. The coolant temperature sensor was easy. In your application getting a computer controlled distributor may be a big obstacle.
