Ditto what Tim said. I checked around with quite a few places locally and a ton of places online. The cheapest deal is still going to be Amazon. The free shipping needs to be considered too when checking prices.

I bought 2 boxes off of ebay. One box was sticky as hell the other one didn't stick very good. I called dynamat and they said they wouldn't warrantee it because it came off ebay and that there is some fake stuff out there with their name on it. (Who knows)

Is that bulk pack on amazon enough for a first gen Camaro? I am getting a new tranny installed next week, and this would probably be a good idea while the carpet, etc is out (going from auto to manual).

While you guys are searching for the cheapest price, check out the MEGA PACK. the sheets are 24 x 48 insead of 18 x 36 and ship FLAT instead of rolled up in a box. even at my price its twice the material for less than twice the price....more money saved. It's still not enough to do a whole car, though.

I wish I could buy a 100 foot roll and hang it on the wall like carpet at the home depot.

Depends on how much coverage you want. I did literally every square inch I could (floors, doors, roof, trunk, inside qtr panel, etc.) and I think it took me over 4 boxes. In hindsight I could have scaled back and gotten enough benefit with probably half that.

I don't know how set you are on dynamat, but Fatmat is really good and is way less expensive than dynamat. 100 sf for $130 and free shipping. I bought the 100 sf roll and it was more than enough to do the entire car. Just my .02!

Interesting write up! I haven't had any issues with the Fatmat, my car does not stink during the summer, and it works great in my car. I can't speak for others experiences, but mine has been good thus far in two cars.

As you can see I did every square inch of the inside of the car and the insides of the doors.
I used 4 - 1/2 boxes. That includes the firewall and under the dash.
I have never used fatman but I never see the top builders use anything other than Dynamat.
That should say something.
I got mine on ebay about a year ago, and I believe it was the same as the amazon price you gave. Mine also included free shipping. Which makes a big differance because those boxes are heavy. Especially 5 boxes.

Hi Paul- I am trying to figure out how many bulkpack boxes I will need for my 69 camaro. You mentioned 4.5 boxes... were those bulkpack boxes?

Yes Rob, they were the bulk packs.
But remember I did the insides of my doors too.
You could probably get away with 4 if you don't do your doors.
To me it was worth it though, the first time I closed that door and heard that solid new car sound.
It was awesome.

I used a company that is well known in the car audio world. Its called "second skin".

Gearing up to finish my 1972 chevelle convertible for the spring. Since its convertible and has some new sheet metal,id like to keep the noise to only the sound of my music and exhaust.

So far I've got spectrum on the quarters and in the trunk...then a couple layers of damplifier pro in the trunk and interior floors..would like some more of each forthe trunk lid, rear support and doors.

Overall,the stuff is great to work with. Id like for the foil to be a lil more flexible to be able to reduce wrinkles but no big deal. Can't wait to install the sounds!

Has anyone used dynamat or second skin on the underside of a hood? I have two vehicles in mind one being my camaro and the other being a 55 chevy truck (4x4) thats used regularly off road. Any ideas how this stuff would hold up to "the elements"??? Thanks for the help

Why is no one using a spay-on sound killer? Something like lizard skin or Dynamat spray? My experience is that it's way easier to apply and works much better than the paper stuff.

I've never used the Lizard Skin brand but I've used 2 or 3 different spray-in types over the past few years. I've always liked the spray better. It's a little more work up front but the coverage is better and in my experience you don't need to worry about it becoming unstuck. I've had a problem once or twice with the stick-on paper falling off; especially on the roof. The spray can be more expensive if your doing small rattle cans but if you can spray it on by the gallon it's very similar in price and I think it works better simply because of the better area coverage. It's much easier to cover hard to reach places (aka door skins or behind rear panels). The paper is nice to do small add-on stereo installs but if you have the car stripped and can easily spray the whole thing at once it's really easy and quick! Even though Lizard Skin is a "newer" brand this type of stuff has been around for over a decade.

FWIW I am in the process of removing Fat Mat from the cab of my truck for a number of reasons. I don't live in a particularly hot part of the country but there is a slight hint of tar, and using a heat gun to remove increases the smell, so on a hot day...Also after being in my truck for about 4 years the fatmat on verticle surfaces is starting to peel. On both flat and vertical surfaces I found rust starting to form which would lead me to believe water is somehow getting under the product. Also one layer didn't give me much sound deadening at all (hardly noticable). This stuff is a bear to remove in the places it did stick and for future products I will use either secondskin or dynamat extreme. Do yourself a favor and buy the good stuff Im pretty thrifty but in this case you get what you pay for!
