      stock 81 camaro A/C problems

my 81 Z still has the factory A/C and has worked good until recently . The selector that controls wether it blows in the floor or defroster or dash doesn't change . I don't know what oprerates the door that routes the air to the different vents but I've heard it was controlled by vaccume. Any ideas on what could be the problem . I would rather ask and it be a simple solution as me tear the dash apart and then find out it could have been fixed without having to do that .

Most mode controls for GM HVACs were vacuum controlled in the 70s and 80s. Most common problems would be a cracked vacuum hose or vacuum diaphragm in the mode door actuator

Like Twentyover said, this is all vacuum controlled on the '81. It could be the vacuum selector on the control itself leaking, a bad vacuum line or the diaphram at the heater box. It's more or less a search and destroy kinda project, you'll have to test each component. A hand vacuum pump with a gauge is your friend here.
