      Cleaning rotors for painting

My rotors have flash rust and need a coat of paint. Do you think this product would be safe to neutralize the rust before spraying with hi-temp paint?

      Dan,
Get some of Dupont's Metal Etch or POR's Metal Ready. Use them with a scotch brite pad and they will clean up the rust without even blinking...

I've used OxiSolv before and have no complaints at all. It's clear though, so if you brush it on, it can be a little difficult to tell what's done and what's not done.

it does dry to leave a zinc coating. you'll notice a whitish texture slightly when it is dry. very slight.

You'll still want a good rust preventative paint/primer on top of that though I would think.
The POR (Paint Over Rust) product is just about unbeatable. You could just about use it alone and not use the OxiSolv, but the Oxi is just a good extra-measure.

      Mark/BA,

THANKS for the responses. My plan is to use the Oxisolv (since it's already being shipped to me), then a pre-painting prep spray, then finally some hi-temp caliper paint. Of course I'll mask off the areas where the pad has already made contact. If that doesn't work out I'll try the POR products.

      Thanks again,
      Dan
