2nd Gen Camaro fitment

I've been looking/helping my dad decide on some wider wheels for his 73 Camaro. We are looking at the ZR1 style 17x11 for the rears. What kind of fitment issues or recommendations is there running these? The tires would be 315/35's. Wheel wells are stock and it is using the stock placement leaf springs and stock width rear end.

Fitting a 315 in the stock wheelwell is maxing it out. It can be done but things get "really" tight.

You will have to take a BFH to the seatbelt humps in the wheelwells and nearly flatten them along with rolling the fender lip. Wheel offset is also very critical due to clearing the leaf springs as well as the sheetmetal. If you will be running auto-X or track days it will get more complicated, you will need a panhard bar or other location device to keep the rear from shifting side to side during hard cornering.

I run 18x10 wheels with a 5.5 backspace and 275 rear tires. When autocrossing they will make light contact with the seatbelt hump. I have the fender lips rolled and have very lightly massaged the seatbelt hump. I have no location device other than the Hotchkis leaves so it contacts on the hump when cornering hard. If you want to clear the 315's you should think about eliminateing the seatbelt hump or beating it completely flat.

If you are planning to run actual ZR1 wheels I think the back spacing is going to be WAY off......double check it.

Hotchkis had their F71 2nd gen running 275/315's with a stock sub & leafs I had the chance to get a ride in it at Button Willow and don't remember it rubbing at all.

It won't rub if you run poly leaf spring bushes and a the Hotchkis front and rear anti roll bars. The anti roll bar is the key. BS will be 5.75" and depending on the ride height it may require rolled lips. You cannot tuck 315's very far at all. The Hotchkis lowered springs sit just fine on the 26" 315/35/17. If drag racing the 28" wheels (275/60/15 or 295/55/15) on 10 x15 BS 5.50 should tuck about 3/4 to 1/2" under the lip. But measure any way as you rear may not be centred.....

Thanks to all who have replied to Shaun aka "Z06KillinSBF" and his questions about wheel fitment on my Camaro. He has been on me forever about ditching the 15's and the whole drag radial style. And yes that 4.11 spool is a little bit "caveman" to drive on the street. I do appreciate the suggestions will some day go pro-touring with it.
BTW, I painted that little blue Mustang he drives. Nice?

The only way to do the 315 on 11's right is to mini tub it. No mini tub, then 285 rears and 275 fronts on the 10" rims will be the best bet. You gonna need wheel adapters for them rims too.

Thanks for the welcome and good comments. Ed or Eddie whatever you want to call me, Pops is ok too. I placed a pair of 315-35-17's (tires only) under it to check what would rub and to generally see what it would look like. Looks great but also looks like they would hit everything.

Looks great now! Putting some low profile tires and big wheels on it are really going to set it off and give it a whole new look!

I know that 11 inch wheels is too much for most second gens. You can fit 10.5's if you nail the backspacing. If you do go with 11's you might have to run different backspacing side to side as it will literally be that close. Youll have to roll the fender lips completely down and smooth the seat belt hump for sure. You'll need wheel spacers to run the ZR1 wheels to.
