View Full Version : Rear Spring Pad Necessary?

I'm using a 8.5 10 bolt rear in my 69 Firebird which has the universal type spring perches welded on and 2 u-bolts going over the rear axle and through the original shock plate. When I first assembled this I used the rubber multileaf spring pads, but they seem to have split. To I "NEED" a spring pad between the persh and the spring or can I make a solid mount without the pad?

Thanks!

Drew

After sifting through about 3 pages of historic threads I found they are not absolutely necessary.....guess I'll pull them out tomorrow night.

With that type perch no pad should be used!

I ditched those rubber leaf pads a long time ago. After doing a few hard launches at the track, they would split and make my axle get out of line. Tossed those suckers and never looked back!

Thanks! Exactly what I needed to know!

I guess playing the other night breaking in the new 2800 stall converted split the pads. ;)
