      Wilwood Brakes - 4 vs 6 piston/12.19" vs 12.88" rotors

As the title suggest, looking for opinions on Wilwood brake setups for my '67 Camaro (currently 4 wheel drums). I have 18" wheels so anything will fit. My biggest problem is that I don't know how much/if any track time the car will see.

There are a bunch of kits out there from the 4 piston/12.19" rotor setup, to the 6 piston/12.19" setup, to the 6 piston/12.88" rotor setup for the front.

12.88" rotors for the rear don't seem necessary for a mostly street driven setup, but what do you guys think about the front. Is there a big difference in stopping power, heating/cooling, etc? It's a pretty big jump in price from the 12.19" rotor to the 12.88". Is it worth it?

Last thing is that I will probably upgrade the rear end after the summer, so I may hold off on rear brakes until I figure out what I'm doing with the rear. Thanks.

The 12.19 is great for dailey driver, casual autocross (casual being the operative word). I run the (6) piston 12.19 front and (4) piston 12.19 rear on my street drag car and stop from 148MPH at the shortest tracks with room to spare and then some. Stopping power is great. And for $2100 for a complete F and R kit that does the entire car with master, ebrakes cables, etc, and all the goodies, you cannot beat it for a great looking set up in a 18" wheel and terrific performance.

Will the rear brakes fit the standard 7/16" studs or does the rear axle need to be redrilled and tapped for 1/2" studs?

We have a lot of people run them with the 7/16 studs, and if you tighten the wheel properly it whould be OK. but with that said the front hubs are going to be 1/2" with the Wilwood front kit. Your going to have th axles out anyway for the install (which is pretty simple) so i would just have 1/2" studs pressed in. Any auto parts store with a press can do it.

Alright, interesting. For some reason I thought the fronts used the 7/16" studs. I'm still not sure I want to put any time or money into this 10 bolt 8.2 that I have.

How much of a savings (dollars or % off) is it to buy a kit for front and rear with all the goodies, vs piecing it together (doing the front now and the rear when I do a new rear end). Assume I did 6 piston 12" rotors up front and 4 piston 12" rotors on the rear.

The Total Car G Machine package is right at $400 less then the individual components but we can save you some money if your doing front now, rear later.

I have 13" - 6 piston on the front and 4 - piston 12" on the rear of my Fairlane. Couldn't be happier. Stops great and makes me feel much safer. This was an upgrade from the 4 wheel drum setup!!

Frank, just got back from the long weekend. Thanks for going out of your way to make this happen. I'll let you know how they work out.

I'll give you a call when I'm ready to do the rears.

67rally, those brakes fade when they get hot? Because i ride in some twisted roads and those goes down hill. I'm little bit worried about that.
      Thanks

I haven't tracked it, so I can't tell you for sure. No issues with hard backroad/around town driving though.

FWIW, those were the wrong calipers that Frank sent. I think they were Superlites, or something better than the Dynapro's. They did not fit the brackets. The Dynapros are nice, but not as beefy as what's puctured above. I'll see if I can dig up a pic.
