I've been slowly working on my '72 firebird project and had a stroke of luck at the swap meet this weekend. I found a set of Carroll Shelby Europa wheels in 15x8.5. The price was right so I grabbed them. Now I am trying to figure out what tire size would make it look right on my '72 firebird. Eventually I'll switch to 17" wheels and big brakes, but for now these will work and are exactly the style I was looking for.

Wheel up against the car with a 295/50/15. Looks too tall and definitely too wide for the rim

In old trans am photos the tires always look a little wide for the rims and they aren't low profile by any means. I'm hoping there's a tire size that will get the right look and won't cost a fortune. what do you guys suggest?

It may be the angle of the picture, but I think you could go wider still. Maybe even step to a 60 series. Check out the bulge these guys are packing....I mean that in the least gay way possible. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
