So this is my attempt at a home made splitter / spoiler. I purchased a plastic lower air dam from a late 90's GM application. I then won on Ebay a front splitter used from a NASCAR application.

The Splitter

The air dam was close the the 1967 Camaro factory contour. The entire middle section was close. From the center line of the factory spoiler moving left and right the two migrated from each other about 1/4 away on each side so. I'll need to change the bend but that will be later on.

Here they are over one an other

The over width of the spoiler needs to be trimmed by 16" so I took 8" off the straight sections where they are not lining up.

The result a new splitter that is as wide as the left and right measurements of the lower front fender extensions where the factory support bars go.

I need to get my buddy's plastic welder next.......

The splitter is 72" wide so i need to trim that by 13" this will give a splitter that is 59" and ends roughly on the middle point of the front tire.

I need some help on this one. The material looks to be carbon fiber. I was thinking i can cut the middle section out and then rivet them back together using a steel plate backer. Is this the right approach? Of does anyone have a better ideal?

The other question is how to finish it. I was going to paint this as well but can I can DA sand the old paint off and reshoot it. Is there way I can get the paint and slight scuffs off and having the carbon fiber look good? Or is the carbon fiber just not able to get brought back to looking good?

this is what it looked like just quickly mocking them up together. The alignment is WAY off but you get the picture...I can't mock up the shorten piece since my brother has all my buttwelding clamps.

gotta squint your eyes a little to imagine it.

I was able to mock it up quickly. I think i like this side up. Its slightly off center but looks good i think. I still need to weld it up and tweek it a little but its getting there.

Can you post a pick of it the other way for us to see? A profile pic would be sweet too. But overall it looks good, great idea.

In my opinion, I like it the second way best. Truthfully though, it looks great either way.

So the plastic welder took some getting used to but i think it worked well. I did a test piece last night and tried to rip it apart today and it was real strong. The spoiler needs to go back more but its getting there.

Here are some extra shots. I think I'm back to this orientation. The bottom is 6 1/2" from the ground.

side view I still need to move it back about 1" to get the contour to line up.

What GM car is that spoiler off of??? It looks like it would follow the contours of my Nova bumper really nice!

It should look really sweet when you get that splitter mounted to it! Good work.

the application is 1997 Tahoe, I think it covers the 1500 trucks as well. They are all over ebay. They are available with and with out tow hook openings which i think can be used for air duct hook up for brake cooling.

this is with the tow hooks

This is as far as it goes for now. I have lots of projects around the house that need to be done so I'll live with this. I still need to use some plastic filler and smooth out the spoiler more. An i still have a bunch of work with DA sander to get the carbon fiber to be smoother.
