My 81Z28 is evolvng into an autocross only car and I'm looking for input on how to get a wider tire than A 275 up front. Ideally, I'd like to use a 294/40/17 front to match the rear and be able to rotate and maximize tire life. I have no issues with losing the inner fenders and running extreme amounts of useable neg camber. I was going to try a 17 x 9.5 wheel with a 5.5 bs up front and see what fits. I know a 275/40/17 is do-able. I'm using Baer 13" track kit front brakes which add maybe 3/16th to the front width and 700 in/lb springs.

275/40/17 is a bit much on the front, the guys that are running that have DSE front subframes or something similar. My 235/40/17's BARELY fit on a 8 inch wheel without rubbing, but I have a very low ride height.

The problem with big heavy cars like camaros is that they need as much tire on the front as possible to have decent grip. I've een 275/40/17s before so someone who's done this with a stock subframe has to have knowledge of the limiting factors. Once I know these factors, maybe I can "manipulate" them to gain more tire clearance. My car isn't going to be super low. In order to have an effective suspension I need wheel travel or I'll be on the bump stops and might as well throw the suspension away.

Mike,
This is off your original topic, but what motor mounts did you use on your car? I am putting an LQ4 into a Firebird and I am trying to poll as many folks as possible to figure out what plates they used and how much they liked them. What accessory drive and are you running AC? What headers? What is your fuel system setup?

If it helps, on the front i have 8x15's with 255 60 15 tyres. fit fine, looks like they have loads of space so i guess 275 would be the limit?
