how do you take care of chrome wheels?

I'm wondering how you guys take care of your chrome wheels...

Are there any special cleaning material?

I just wanna keep the chrome shiny :)

Windex works real well for quickie clean ups. When thouroughly cleaning the car I'd use Chrome Polish that can be had at any auto parts store. IMHO do not use wax as it wears away and leaves a terrible appearance.

No matter what product you use, always use a soft cloth. No tee shirts or shop rags!

Three simple tips:

1) Let your wheels cool off before you do anything.

2) Don't use abrasive brushes

3) Go easy on the chemicals

Were talking about chrome wheels right? Chrome done right is incredibly strong. Steel wool and water works good, chrome cleaner is just quicker. I need to sell my 14 inch chrome wheels, ill do a before and after on them.

I believe "chrome" may be getting confused with "polished aluminum" in this case. Much like the slang for referring to wheels as rimz, chrome is erroneously used in place of polished aluminum. I would highly advice against using steel wool on the hoops of da chrome rimz until the you understand and identify what materials you trying to clean.

Alright guys... I bought turtle wax chrome polish and rain x.

Last week I polished the wheels and put rain x on after it.

The result is incredible!!!

Even after almost 2 weeks the wheels are shiny.

All respect Monza, I know from experience that stuff is crap. Dulls the finish and blueing actually changes the composition of the chrome.

Real chrome wheels always look great after a wet rag full of comet cleanser and some elbow grease. Try it! I have been using it for years on my cars. It will work on most painted or powder coated wheels too but try it on a small spot first maybe near the inside to be sure it wont scratch.

Sorry guys for digging out such an old thread.

I did use turtle chrome polish and rain x for our wheels in the past and now look what I found today:

That really pi$$e$ me off... see the chrome coming off? And all these close up scratches?
How can I fix that???

I don't blame it on the products, just wondering HOW it got so messed up...

I'm not sure what the scratches are from or if this will help, but my friends father has a 32 Ford with chrome wire wheels (30+ years old) and they are mint... the ONLY product he every used on them is Windex and a soft cloth...
