Assuming you are talking about the rear. We have 17x9.5's on our 68 firebird. Tires are 275/40 ZR17. No rubbing at all. Stock subframe w/ Hotchkis TVS.

I'm thinking of the front I cut 1/2" out of the frame whare the tires rub so I was thinking that a 9" wide wheel will fit I had 8" wheels with a 4.5 backspace and it rubed a little not much so I'm thinking of putting a 9" with a 4.75 back space

I'm running a 9" wide wheel with 5" of backspace and 275 tire. I had to do a little clearance work with a hammer, but it fits.

RobertJRA,

What year Camaro are you working on? The ‘67 and ‘68 have different clearance than the ’69. An 18x9 285 is quite a big combo. Another limitation you’ll run into is the sway bar.

Did you consult the “Wheel fitment database” on this site?

Robertjra,

Thanks for using our parts on your Camaro. Don’t forget to consider the design of the wheel lip too. A soft lip on a wheel will also reduce clearance with suspension components when you’re pushing the limits on large diameter wheels. You can’t go wrong test fitting wheels on your car before purchasing them. Some shops do this as a service. It may add a little expense to the cost of the wheels, but in the overall picture it’s worth it.

Thanks do you have the handle bars for the ls yet? And the front sway bar will rub on a 285?

Stock tub 69 Camaro, 10" wide wheel with a 275 wide tire is about as big as you can go.

Robertjra,

We’re still working on the Handle Bar (http://www.hotchkis.net/19671969_camaro_19681974_nova_chassis_max_handle_b ars.html) cross-bar to clear some LS engine conversions. Call our toll free tech line for details regarding your specific application. 1-877-735-6425
The front sway bar interference is very slight and is determined by factory frame tolerances, caster adjustment, and wheel offset. This is the reason we suggest check-fitting wheels and tires when pushing the envelope with larger wheels.

67 Camaro with 17x10" rims and 285/40 tires in the rear. Had to work the inner tubs a bit and some minor trimming of the fenderlip.

295/35/18 KDWs, they are wider than most brands and they fit very tight, no rubbing. Aggressively rolled the lips, top portion only. The car is also lowered about 2.5 inches.

Carl Cassanova has 9.5" wide rims and 285 tires on all 4 corners of his 68. You do loose some stereo g radius this way though.

Also not all tires are equal. My 275 KDs were ~0.5" wider than my NT-05's.
