I'm having a Dana S60 built for my '70 Chevelle project. I've ordered a 305/40/R18 tire/wheel package. If there is no extra cost involved, is there any merit to having my rear-end builder move the shock mounting locations inward 0.5" - 1.0" so there is more clearance with the rims? I seem to recall others have minimal to no clearance when running wider wheels. The rear end will be built to overall stock 68-72 rear-end width. Any thoughts? Am I asking for trouble in terms of the suspension function with this seemingly minor mod?

Personally I don't see any reason to change the location unless you plan on mini tubing it down the road and want the ability to run a really wide rim. I know you can fit a 305/40 into a 70 wheel well with the right back spacing and the stock shock locations, as for exactly how much clearance you will have I cant really say.

I ordered an S60 a few weeks ago for my 72 Chevelle, and I left mine stock with the exception of deleting the spring pads since I'm running shockwaves, and I will be running a 305/40 tire as well.

Just my .02
