widen or buy new wheels

hey guys.. i need an expert opinion on this.. i have a 65 chevelle ls2 single turbo 4l80e, full airride. and i have a set of 18/20 intro wheels and they fit the car perfect but the rear are only 20x8.5 and id like to get the biggest rear rim possible on there.. should i just have my rear rim re hooped to make them 20x10 which is what i think is the biggest i can do before cutting the frame or just buy new wheels. or if anyone has any nice used 18/20 or 19/20 rims they want to sell that will fit my car let me know

Answer is simple really, would you prefer to pay 350ea wheel to re-hoop, or afford to/ want to/ change your entire wheel set for something new? 19s and 20s in two piece are going to run you 2800 bucks give or take a few hundred, so the answer is do you want new wheels or, not. :)

What is your back spacing? I have been toying around with selling mine 18/20 Rushforth rated X's 20x 12 with 6" bs and 18x7 with 4.5" bs

driverzinc- i love my style wheels and they fit perfect the only bad thing is they are not wide enough. so do i spend all the money buying all new wheels or spend the 250$ each rim to have them re-hooped

grnova- id love to get your wheels but the biggest i can go before notching the frame is 20x10

There's the way to go, I think you answered your own question. If you still love your wheels, widen them, and you'll be happy with them still with minimal cost out of pocket.

thats what im thinking.. if i had a buyer for my intro wheels then it would be a different story id sell them and buy new custom wheels but im not sure what i can even ask for my wheels..

I will in a couple days.. im not sure what the offsets are.. all i know now is they are 18x8 and 20x8.5 and fit my chevelle perfect. the rims look great with no curbs. just need a good polishing which i'll probabaly do

why not just widen them from the backside of the wheel hoop?

If you still like your wheels I would re-hoop, hands down.

not to highjack but I wonder if its possible to re-hoop the 18" BMW M3 wheels I have to take them from 8" to 11" wide.

That's the first I've heard of not being able to widen a one piece. I have plenty of friends with widen OEM Mustang wheels guy.

Let me an to my statement. I would not recommend widening a one piece oem wheel. You would not be widening with the same material that the OEM wheel is so you will be compromising the integrity of the wheel. Just my 2 cents.

I checked with a company that widens wheels and they could widen the required 3" with the correct BMW material it but would not guarantee that I could mount a tire afterwards, this due to the fact that I'd have to widen outwards which would put the "bump" to far from the edge to mount a tire.
When you talked about re-hooping i thought I had the formula :O)
