Hello,

Just to keep it short and simple and less for you to readhttps://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/02/thumbs_up-1.gif... 68 Charger built at 3200lbs with 32lbs per wheel on all 4 verse a 3200lbs charger (same weight) with 19lbs per wheel on all 4.

In terms of handling will they be identical around the the track considering they both weigh the same or does one work out different because the actual wheels are lighter/heavier even though the overall weight is the same between the 2?

If there is a difference even though both weigh identically 3200lbs, how much lighter (or what weight) would the charger with 32lbs per wheel need to be to end up the same as the 3200lbs charger with 19lbs wheels?

Reason I ask is not because the 'minor' difference that it may receive could cost extra 5000 dollars but because the only wheel I found to like on the charger is the heavier wheel.

I have done alot of back to back testing on the drag strip and saving that amount on the rotating mass would amount to about .15-.20 in a quarter mile. I don't see why some savings would not be realised under braking also (although I have done no testing of this but common sense.......well nevermind.) The decrease in rotating mass increases the acceleration and deceleration of the wheel, provided you can transmit that accel/decel in the form of traction. Now you add those tenths up......

I am going to assume that you have more than 500 RWHP but if you don't it might be something to consider the lighter wheels. I am putting down maybe 300 RWHP and the difference in going from my stock aluminum Vette wheels to the O.Z. Racing wheels is noticable in more than just acceleration and braking. Turning feels so much more controllable and the road surface transmits to the wheel differently. Whether any of it makes enough difference depends on if you are competetive by nature and just won't be happy with a smigin less performance for a little style.

.....and if you do have more than 500RWHP I think the heavier better looking wheels are the best choice..........for me! LOL.

I am talking 650hp at the motor and about 680-700ft/lbs at the motor. Running a 528ci full alloy Hemi.

I know I prefer the wheels I found which are heavier by about 12-14lbs than Forgeline wheels each.

So how much weight would the car need to be to be equivalent... meaning the car with the 18lbs wheels weighing 3200lbs total... what weight would I need to get the charger to with 32lbs wheels to be the same? 3000?, 3100? 2900? etc, that way I make the entire car lighter to compensate for the heavier rotational mass... if you know what I mean.

On the other hand, since its pre-dominantly a street car, I can just get the ones I like and If I find myself more and more at the track, BUY a set of forgelines with slicks on them for the track and when I get home stick my Muroc III's back on for the rest of the year the car is on the street. That may be the simplest choice to get both looks on street and performance on track.

Bill Howell runs Forge-lines on his 71 Charger and that car has been to Hell and back as far as performance driving and testing of a rim can go....

I'm told that every one pound you take out of rotating mass equals ten pounds of static weight on the car.... Effectively you'd be taking 110lbs out of the car between the two different rims make/styles keeping in mind where weight is placed on a car can dramatically effect handling (ie move a battery out of the front of an F-body to the back it has a noticeable effect,,, move that same battery out of the front of a charger with the extra overhang???? is it more or less of an effect based on overall vehicle dynamics???)
