Gallery of Pro-Touring style 2nd Gen Firebirds, does it exist?

I was wondering if there was a gallery/repository of pro-touring style 2nd gen Firebirds and T/As that have 17" and 18" rims with written and explained set-ups. Does anyone know of such a thing exists?

Somewhere I have seen a gallery of second gen Firebirds/TA's with a variety of larger diameter wheels and most have pretty good stances too. I don't know how I would go about finding it, but it was a nice resource. I may have it saved in my bookmarks on my home computer.

Yeah, I looked through that one. It was okay. There were maybe one or two good ones.

The thread on TAC is good if you're looking to go with 15-17" wheels and not modify the wheelwells. Although, it's very limited in the types of wheels shown. Most are Rallye IIs, Snowflakes, Honeycombs, and versions of the 5 spoke SS-Torque Thrust type wheels. The one car in the thread with really badass PT wheels on it is Wes's car and his pics are missing from photobucket.

A 2nd gen bird gallery thread with pics, specs, details and fitment issues for PT/G-machine type cars on here would be a good thing. There's quite a few that have been built in recent years, and so now there's enough to actually be a source of info and inspiration for people building now. The people building now are PMing those of us who have "done" cars all the time to find out fitment info and I'm sure others besides myself find themselves typing the same info to answer the same questions over and over. I'm getting new Rushforths for my car and find myself trying to find them on others cars so I can get ideas of what I want for options, so I'm in the same boat.

2nd gen birds are not Camaros, the wheelwells are different so what fits a bird with or without mods doesn't necessarily fit a Camaro and vice versa. Also what works on early 2nd birds doesn't necessarily work on the later 2nd gen birds. Add to that, minitubs, frame/suspension mods, weight reduction, type of use, and other variables which all affect what will work and what won't. Another thing is that a pic gallery would provide a way for folks to see what the various "modern" wheels look like on a 2nd gen bird, Formy, TA without PMing or using the search function to find various members cars hoping they posted a pic of their wheels.

There's also more interest now in "stance", and wheel/tire diameters that are beyond optimal performance diameters are often being installed. The thread could help folks trying to achieve the appearance they desire.

AHAHAHA, Knew I'd get your attention! LOL I'd been thinking about a thread for a while and then watching this thread convinced me it needs to be done. I think it should be only 2nd gen birds and only cars that have actually been driven with the combo posted. None of this "Here's my cool new wheels" type posts with pics of wheels propped on boxes, only to find out 6 months later they were never used because they didn't fit.


I thought I'd make an opening post explaining the thread purpose and parameters of what I'd like to see in posts in the thread. Then the second post would be a "fill in the blanks" form indicating the relevant information desired. That way people can just click "reply with quote". Then they can fill in year, wheel specs, body specs, suspension etc. and include pics that show side, front, rear, views. Have a section for their experience, rubbing issues, tire wear, handling, etc. Hopefully if it seems easy to fill in the blanks and is structured enough people would keep up the thread using the form and stay on track. Similar threads asking for specs on forums seem to digress to "Here's a pic of my car with xxxx wheels" with no information which just raises more questions rather than answering them.

Make a list of what you'd like to see in the posts. I'll PM ya the form I'm making so you can look it over and see if I'm missing something. I think it could be a really good resource for members with 2nd gen birds as well as the lurkers who outnumber members by 3-4 times. Who knows maybe it'd get some of the non-member lurkers to become members and post up their car?

I think wheels/tires section is the place to put it. It'll get burried pretty fast because thats an active section but if people keep it up by adding their (currently) project cars when they're finished and thoroughly tested it would keep the thread popping up and be an evolving information source as time goes by. It would also reduce the number of random what _____ should I get or what _____ will fit for 2nd gen bird threads. Where we have to draw out the info on year, mods etc before anyone can possibly offer a qualified answer. I find myself reading and ignoring those threads and moving on even when I might be able to help just because it's a hassle, kinda like where this thread was probably headed eventually due to lack of info in the OP.

We could always ask for sticky--I'm sure the mods would support that as they have supported similar endeavors in the past, as long as the quality was up to snuff. All of your ideas are right in line with mine--I'm looking forward to seeing your form, and we'll go from there!
