      Wheel question regarding offset

I have a 1966 el camino i already have the tires 285/35/19 and 245/40/19 i have been looking at the bmw wheels . My car has a 68 chevelle 12 bolt 1/2 inch wider per side with ls1 rear brakes about an aditional 1/4 inch per side front has c6 z06 brake about a 1/4 wider per side . Any tried and true combonations used for a similar setup .What offset was used a spacer if any .
      Thanks for your help
      Tim

      Hi Tim,

To tell you what will work would be a risk for you and I both. I would like to see some measurements taken from the car and also we need to know how much the caliper hangs past the wheel mounting surface. If you would like, pm me your phone number and I will call you tomorrow and help you get the right fitment the first time.

      Regards,

      Perry

Taz, the issue you are going to have is clearing the Z06 brakes. You will need a front wheel with at least a 1.75" pad to clear the caliper offset. Basically, the caliper hangs out 1.69" past the mounting surface of the wheel. When we build wheels in house we use a full 2" pad to clear the ZO6 brakes. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of factory built wheels with that amount of caliper clearance built in. Feel free to call me if you have any questions.

Any reputable billet wheel company can build what is required. You are not limited to One Manufactuer by a long shot. Bonspeed, Genuine Boyds, EVOD, Curtis Speed, Intro, Etc..., can build with custom pad depth as part of their program. If you buy a wheel with a huge pad that is not needed then it will look like the wheel has a spacer. I agree the Z06 needs a larger pad but lets build to the dimension required with acceptable clearance and forget the spacer look but then again we may have no choice to make the vehicle look right.

Spacer look or not, a certain pad length is required to clear brakes and hub lengths. There is not a vendor (Prodigy, Rushforth, PRRC, Driverz, etc) on this site who is new to the game. This should help. http://www.kore3.com/downloads/fitme...es/DOC0019.pdf

Yes you are right and I agree that wheel manufactuers know this! The whole point of this thread is to make sure the customer gets the right fit with the required brake clearance noted, but in his original post he has modified the vehicle significantly. He installed a wider rearend/brakes, and dont you agree that maybe if not careful the front wheel could look wider than the rear? Lots to consider here and maybe the pad depth outside the brake clearance may be the only way to make the package look right. Recently we did a car where a gent installed a front subframe and it was to narrow. We had to build a huge pad to kick the center of the wheel out especially to make the front look not as deep as the rear, and he was also dead set on a certain tire.

Not challenging anybodys expertise here when the customer is #1 priority.

      Regards,

      Perry

I am not concerned at all. My concern is the member knowing what is needed to clear the front Z06 brakes. Swapping rear between the A-Bodies is very common and can be made up with BS. He was asking about BMW wheels and before he spends money on them I wanted him to make sure he was taking into consideration the abnormally large caliper offsets found on the Z06 brakes swaps. Not looking to argue with you.
