My new to me wheels

I know these aren't exactly pro-touring type wheels. But with a shrinking budget and getting a really good deal on them, I couldn't pass them up. They are potentially going on my 68 camaro. As far as I know, they are early GTA wheels, 16x8 with a 4.5 backspacing, which should fit just right. My camera isn't the greatest, so its hard to get a good picture. But they are in perfect condition. The tires look like they don't have many miles either. I haven't looked to date them yet, but they are probably original. So they may be getting changed.

My goals for the car are to create a good ballance on the street. My hope is that the 16's will give me the ballance of good performance, yet still be someone civil on the street. They should at the very least be better than the stock 14's. The plans are also to paint the car black, so I think it will match up nicely.

I remember when building cars was about going to swap meets, bench racing, and it was all very achievable. Good times back then...

You're right; I figure that I'll have to get new wheels once my current tires wear out.

I have 1988 GTA wheel on my car and love them. They are very light and strong and look great. I think they were like 16 pounds per wheel. The downsides are like mentioned above 16" tires are limited these days and if you have any fancy brake hardware they are hidden by the diamond cross lace. I still love them, and doubt I will be getting rid of them anytime soon.

Btw, has anyone figured out who made these wheels for GM? My set was made in Japan, I know other sets are made in Germany, to me this points to BBS, but Enkei had aftermarket wheels very similar to these at the same time.

I had a pair of Enkei's 92s, in 16x8 they were available about a year before the GTAs were.
The Enkei have a flat center area around the lugs, and are also very light, unfortunaltely there were a PITA to clean.
I suggest a nice brake-dust center color, or black.

I think the GNX and the GTA wheel were made by JDM Japan Domestic Manuf, or JWC Japan Wheel Corp (?) IIRC,
the company initials are stamped on the wheel center.
The GTA and GNX wheels had different backspacing.

Only thing I've found is they were made by JWC.

I actually had a hard time figuring out if they were gnx or gta wheels. They came from a friend that had them on his GN. He these and the original ones for the GN, and the guy who bought the car from him only wanted the original ones. But the guy my friend bought the car from said they were GNX wheels. They are all fronts, which will work out great for my car, but it was difficult to find any relaible information. Im about 99 percent sure they are early, non dimpled GTA wheels.

Yeah, I realize that after looking tires up for them. The tire sizes are very limited. but, the 245 50 's are still readily available from quite a few different tire manufactures, and thats the size I plan on running, also what is on the rims now.

yeah, I agree. the internet is great, but I still like getting out and actually meeting people. This project has taken a back seat to other expenses, so anything I can save money on I will. It does mean some of my plans will either have to wait, or just not happen. Either way, I want to finish the car. It just won't have all of the trick things I wanted. Its going to become more Power Touring than a Pro-touring. So I think 16's will be great.

I have always liked that wheel. I bought some new to me wheels today on eBay, I know how pumped you are, now I just have to wait on them to get here.
