I've got 18" Coys wheels and i'm installing 13" brakes on the front. Does anyone know of a valve stem that only sticks out of the wheel 1/2"? I've got about 0.65" clearence between the caliper and the wheel. I don't want to use flush mount stems if I don't have to. thanks

I had the same issue in the past. I was unable to find one shorter than 3/4". I ended up putting in a flush mount and relocating the hole to a better location. Are your tires mounted already?

Yes, tires are mounted. If they weren't mounted I'd drill another hole. I've been running these wheels for over a year now. This winter, I decided to upgrade brakes and suspension. I haven't been able to find any shorter than 0.75" either.

What we have done in the past is take a Semi Truck 90 degree valve stem, cut it short, retap for valve core, and your done. Oh you do have to redrill to accept larger stem but the rubber is way better than conventional auto stems.

Where did you get the schrader valve tap? I wanted to cut down a set of 0.75" stems, but couldn't find the right size tap.

Pts, you actually cut new threads using that tool you listed? I tried with one of those four way tools and it broke. It was standard bore, not large bore, like you showed, but those tools aren't made for forming new threads. Anyway, I finally found a place that sells schrader valve taps(e-taps.com). Wish I would have known about those forgeline stems a couple of days ago. The tap cost me almost fifty bucks!
