300mm or wider street tire for 15 or 16 inch wheel

I'm thining about gong with race car style wide 5 wheels on my 67 Camaro project. I have DSE mini-tubs so I should be able to run 335 tires or something in that ballpark. I can get wide 5 wheels in either 15" or 16", but I'm having trouble finding wide street tires for anything under 17" wheels that's not geared toward drag racing. I would love to have something like BFG KDW's or similar. Any suggestions?

The wide 5 wheels are not DOT legal.

I know this. I'm just asking about tires.

Mickey Thompson S/R has a 12X26X15 that equates to a 305 tire. I've got them on the back of my T/A. I'd like to say they hook, but I'm having issues;)

I looked at the S/R, but aren't they more geared toward drag racing with a softer sidewall? I'm looking for more of a handling oriented tire.

      Thanks

The S/R were developed more for street performance than drag racing. They are a 2 ply sidewall, which is the same as most 17" tires, but they are covering that real estate with more rubber than a 17" tire so they will flex a bit more. Aside from Maxxis, they are the only easily obtained, H rated 15" tire out there. Most 15" tend to be S or T rated with 400+ UTQC ratings.

MT still makes the 4 ply sidewall "I" tread tires that are copies of vintage road race tires of the early 70s, but they are a bias ply construction.

      Tony,

Sounds like you know your tires. Thanks for the info!

The M/T S/Rs are not a "soft" sidewall tire like their drag tires. However, they're also not as stiff as my Pilot Sport 2s on my Viper. You really can only compare 15" tires to other 15" tires. I have BFG 50 series Euro TAs on my Vette which hasn't moved in 8 yrs. I would say the sidewall is a little softer than those (and probably BFG Radial TA), but the treadwear is 200, NOT 400 like all the other radials avail AND the M/Ts are rated to 130mph. I wish BFG would make the G-force in some nice fat 15" sizes (like 275-50 and 305-45, in case BFG is reading).
