Thought I’d put up a thread about my project.

The pro-touring look or scene isn’t really big in Australia and I’ve loved the idea and look of these sorts of builds for a fair while now.

As a consequence when I decided to rebuild my SS from the ground up I decided to follow this theme.

The car itself is a 1990 VN Holden Commodore SS. Originally the car had a 5L V8 and 5 Speed manual driveline.

Where I am at the moment is as follows.

- I have sourced holden’s new old stock list and purchase basically a whole new interior of brand new parts. I have an HSV Senator interior to go in it and have had a custom welded in half cage installed. I have a set of Simpson Platinum series harnesses to complete the look.
- The old 5L and 5 speed have long since gone to a new home soon to be replaced by an LS3 and T56 setup. I’ve ordered a GT45 turbo which will be bolted on the side of the engine with a host of FAST gear and a custom intercooler it should make around 700hp at the wheels. The whole lot will be set up for different boost levels per gear via the turbosmart EBoost2 which I have.
- The rear end will be mini tubbed and I have bolted in a shorter version of the Borg Warner diff with 28 spline billet axles (can’t go 31s with an LSD centre L)
- The car is getting a smoothed engine bay and hidden wiring before it gets coated in the original phoenix red colour.
- I have just received the wheels which are intro vista II’s in 20 x 8.5 fronts and 20 x 10 rears.
- Behind the wheels will go AP racing brakes (350mm discs with 4 piston callipers up front and 330mm rear discs with 4 piston callipers)
- The rear suspension will be height adjustable coil overs and I will also run a coil over setup on the front.
- The whole lot will be finished off with the PRO.A9G plates I’ve ordered (A9G is the model code for a manual VN SS)

Hopefully you like the build.

Cheers,

Craig.

Kind of looks like a 90's Grand Prix - too bad all they got where a turbo 3.1 FWD in that era - maybe a 3.8L v6 as well.

I love my G8 - thanks for the kick ass engineering on the Commodore VE chassis!

In the standard model of this car they got the buick 3.8L V6 but were rear wheel drive. They went alright in manual form but they were the harshest and worst sounding engines ever to grace a commodore engine bay.

The VE chassis is indeed the goods!

Welcome, that car has some potential. This will be cool!

Did they stick the supercharged 3800's in this model - or newer? I know I've seen some intercooler setups for earlier Commodores.

The super6 came out in commodores from 96 onwards. Was a good bit of gear. My mate has one in a 2000 commodore that runs 11.90s.

Theres a few companies that make 'coolers for them. They never make huge power but they make heaps of torque.

They do good burnouts too ;) Check out the pipes :)

Powerskid ftw! You boys and your Supernats are crazy...

I could totally see that thing with ATCC ground effects and wing.

20's on that car are not in my taste, but it's cool to see some variety with an Aussie car

It had 19s on it before so 20s is only one step up. If you're not rolling on 20s in aus you don't even get a second look. Stupid I know but it's the way it is.

Received my sparco quick release steering wheel hub which is a nice bit of gear. Couldn't get two of the bolts out of my steering wheels so had to ruin a momo boss kit to get the steerig wheel off. $100 down the drain.

Talking to Frank and prodigy customs about a baer brake kit (specifically the 6P with 15inch rotors). Any feedback on these. Sounds like they are good brakes. Just waiting on a postage cost.

All Turbo 3.1 FWD has this potential to ride faster on the track ..
Good effort and cool pix.
