Well I will start with if this isn't the right spot for this I appoligize and please move it,

I am new to pro-touring, I found a 68 GTO about 3 hours from where I live its in my price range and from the pictures I have seen it looks to be a fairly rust free car. So on to my question, I realize that the car is over 40 years old, are there any things to expect or to look for out of the ordinary? I mean I am looking a spending a good deal of money and just don't wanna get burned.....

1. Make sure its a real GTO....do some research on numbers to check the VIN. Don't pay a GTO price for a Lemans.
2. Check for rust in all the usual places.....I'm not that much up on A bodies, but the one 68 Lemans coupe I owned sported rust around the rear window and some in front of the windscreen in the cowl.
3. If the cars a runner, it should be a 400....again, do some on-line numbers research to be able to correctly identify Pontiac V8s. Try www.wallaceracing.com - excellent site for all the numbers.

Thanks,

I know the vin should start with a 242 if its a real goat, he already admitted that the engine isn't original, and I think the price reflects that he is only asking 11500.

$11.5K is pretty reasonable if the car is nice. It all depends on what kind of shape the car is in.

When you go to look at the car get underneath and look at the rear quarters from the wheel wells back to the bumper on the inside from below. We have noticed thats where the 68 A bodies we have dealt with like to hide rust. Also look in the trunk around all the groments. If there is rust in the trunk it will show there first. Along the top lip of where the inner fenders bolt to the fenders was another area that we noticed could be an issue. This is based mainly on 68 chevelles, but alot of the components are simalar from a body to a body.
