I need some help from the 2nd gen owners. I am researching the 2nd gen door latches. I have seen a change in the driver's side door latch. There is a hole on the latch that has changed. I think the change took place in 1975. The hole on the pre 75 is round and the hole is hour glass shaped on the 75 and later years.....I think. I have posted some pics of the latches with hole in question circled in red.
The first two pictures are of the driver's side latch and the third is the passenger's side. If the latch is installed in the door the hole is located on the upper side of the latch just below where the key lock cylinder attaches to the latch. This is close to the outer skin side if the door.
Can I get some people that have their door panels off to look at both their doors and post back their findings? I am looking for round or hour glass shaped and the year model of the car.
Thanks in advance.
Shannon

You are correct, there was a change in '75. I learned this while searching for a stock replacement door for my '72. The only difference though should be that the '70-'74 were secured by a screw and '75-'81 used a pop rivet.

Thanks for the reply. I have a set of late model doors and the latch is held in by screws....if that is what you are talking about being held in by rivets.

One other difference is the extreior skins. The early years, I think, have a longer outside door handle.

Yes, that is correct. Although a later model handle will still work, just touches the edges of the recessed section.

Found a hole in my research. I talked to an owner of a 72 Camaro and his driver's side latch has the hour glassed shaped hole.
Are there any other members with these cars that can help me out with my research?

Thanks,
Shannon
