73 firebird rear brake conversion ???help!!!

well i need any and all info on a rear disc brake conversion for my 73 firebird. it has a 10 bolt rear end.
After hours of searching for info lastnite and comming up short i figured this would be the best approach.

As mentioned, what do i need and from what year Camaro, would like to still have the E-Brake work.

So i know i need calipers, discs, baking plate, brackets hoses e-brake cables ect.

Would like a detailed list or if some one has a complete setup i would be interested in purchasing it frome them.

Hey Jim,
The easiest set up to run can be found here (http://www.geocities.com/torkerscamaro/torker.html). One thing, on a 2nd gen you will have to modify or make a rear bracket. The stock one puts the caliper right into the spring. Let me know if you need help with that.

thanks for the info MRQuick, but the c5 stuff isn't readaly available around my home town ...was thinking more along the lines of the 98-02 camaro/firebird set up.

Sorry MRQuick i posted the reply after seeing the C4 and then read the article ...my mistake ... whya re the talking about usinf the 98-02 camaro stuff then whe the 93-97 will work as well

please type slower...my eyes are still crossed...
People like new-er I guess. The 93-97 stuff is lighter, if that matters?
I use to use the older stuff but they are prone to leaking and inconsistant piston self adjustment which makes the parkbrake inoperative.

so are you sugesting that i use the 98 - 02 set up, as well the master cyl. out of the 88 s-10 manual brakes...this is what you are using with a prop. valve.

another thing about the stagared shocks ....if i decide to move the one shock then both left and rite brackets (abutments) will bolt right on. thus not having to get 2 left brackets???
The parking brake cables: which 3 cables do i buy for (year of car)...the setup that goes with my brake of choice ...95 or 02

You can run the S10 master but I haven't completed the LS1 set up yet. I would run the LS1 booster,master and combo valve.

Jimmyb Yes you are correct for 95 but it doesn't matter for 02 L&R brackets

Instead of moving the shocks you can just redrill the brackets and index the calipers where you want them.

ok i was at the junkyard today and the only 2 93-97 camaro nad TA were both completly stripped ...the guy there did give me an idea ...

the rear disc off a 2000 chevy blazer he tought might work the same because of the lug pattern, i looked under the blazer and it the same setup as the 98-02 camaro

he couldn't croos up any of the parts to know for sure...

what do you think

if you check out the link up in the past post for John Maloofs site he has all the pn listed. if you go the cheap route, look to spend around $350-$400. the park brake cables can be bought from Lokar.

for those of you that live in canada click on the "here" in Mr.Quick's first reply and read the article, take note of the online parts stores he mentions then check your local deallers and compare ....I did and couldnt believe the price of parts even the difference in exchange and shipping


Just the brackets alone are 28.57 usd now and here in canada at the local stealer they are over $100 can. Thats a no brainer as to where i will be ordering my parts from .

Thanks again to MR. quick for the great info ... now if i can only get my BS figured out for am. racing TT II's ..im thinking 18x9 in the rear and 17x8 in the front ...looking to have these stuffed inside the finders like Chip Foose does on overhaulin.

Thanks goes to John Maloof for the great info collection. Now to throw in a wrench, check out this write up..... LOL LSI swap (http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/ls1reardisc.shtml) its on a 3rd gen but you can get an idea.
