My fuel system is currently setup for a carb and I have a mechanical fuel pump that will flow 150 GPH at 4.5 psi. I know there are guys running the Holley HP series pumps that flow 150 gph at 16 psi. I was thinking about going with an in-tank electric setup which flows significantly less fuel (65 gph at 45 psi) but at a higher pressure. I was wondering if anyone knows how much efficiency is gained by running a higher pressure pump. For example, would the 65 GPH pump running at 45 psi flow as much fuel THROUGH a -8an system as the 150 gph pump running at 16 psi?

The Holley HP pump will more than support 550hp, just make sure that you also use a regulator set at 6.5 to 7 psi. 150 gph is more than 1000 pounds per hour of gasoline, at the most your engine at wot under a load wouldn't use more than 300 pounds per hour even if the engine was extremely fat.

If that is the case, why aren't people running the higher pressure in-tank pumps and regulating down to 6-7 psi?

i would think that a 65 GPH in-tank pump would be the hot lick since it is quiet and is cooled by the fuel in the tank which should help it last forever.
