I have a late 70's leather 3 spoke steering wheel I found off a wrecked Corvette. I found an adapter to put it in my Chevelle and it has been working great. It's getting to the point though where I need to recover it or something. The leather is pretty bad looking, and it is brown which didn't match my black interior in the first place. I really want to keep the wheel though because (to me) it has the perfect look, feel and size.

Has anyone recovered their own steering wheel just getting a strip of leather and using the old cover as a template and sewing it up? I'm not afraid of doing such things, but I don't want to spend money on some leather if it's really difficult for someone who hasn't done this sort of thing before. Does anyone know of a good set of instructions online somewhere?

I think that a wheel skins cover would probably be your best bet, unless you have unlimited time to burn. you still have to lace them on, but they are pre-cut and punched and made to the size you request.

What I'm looking for is a way to add really firm foam padding to my original 60's wheel and then buy a wheel skins cover for it. Suggestions welcome.
